Yes, it is free. Everyone must go to school for 9 years, afterwards there is the "gymnasium", which is free, but your grades have to be good enough to make it, otherwise you either don't do it or go to a privat school.

Education in Switzerland is free to a certain point.  Attending what we call "Gymnasium" is free, it comes after High School and is totally optional.  However, if one wants to continue his/her studies at a University, there will be a tuition.
