Besides having a burgeoning population and economy of it's own, Egypt would seem to be in a great position to influence the 21st century. It has a large sphere of influence in both Africa and the Middle East. Will it be a follower or leader?

  1. follower

  2. I think Egypt cannot even influence its destiny, its is being decided in Washington. How can Egypt can influence others???

  3. Yes! Look ate the Dollar Bills... they have the pyramids of Egypt.

  4. If Egypt was a leader, it would exert influence over other nations in the Middle East. It cannot get the Palestinians, which are one of its neighbors, to behave after trying for several decades.

The one way Egypt can influence world events is through its control of the Suez Canal. This does not make it one of the 10 most influential countries.

Here are the nations I believe are the 10 most influential (not in any specific order)...

    USA

    China

    UK

    Japan

    France

    Russia

    Germany

    India

    Indonesia

    Brazil

  5. Egypt can use its oil influence and money to its own advantage. Politically it breeds a lot of Osamas and terrorists.

In order for it to really be a force in politics it would have to under go a change in goverment and control its hate groups.

  6. egypt could be either, and i'm going to blatantly plagiarize fareed zakaria on this:

egypt right now has a serious human rights issue.  it doesn't have much in terms of civil liberties.  it could use a freer press, a more relaxed regulation of the economy, a more independent judiciary, and finally--liberal democracy.

if, however, they spiral downward into an authoritarian dictatorship?

egypt will be a follower, probably of another super-saharan african country.

    possibly libya or morocco.

egypt, india, and china could be great investments.

  7. One would hope that given the current autocratic political reality that Egypt is today, it would not be something that would "catch on" or otherwise exert any overwhelming influence.  I apologize if you you find my response disheartening, but a government that practices voter oppression is not a democracy...as such, it has no claim to 'leadership' on a world stage (with or without nukes!)  Blessings...
