First of all the third world theory was made by Alfred Sauvy Who Coined the term "Third World" It was During the Cold War (1945-1989) Now It's 2008 That's About 50 Years of difference A lot can happen in 50 Years I think It's safe to say it's outdated

Egypt as nation had the GDP of 329.791 Billion$ In 2006 Which Would Make Egypt Rank 27th One of the to 30 Wealthiest Nations And It's army is ranked 17th On the strongest armies of the world In terms of Military manpower, Purchasing Power, Oil Production\Consumption.............etc

So is it really a third world country?

  1. no it is not it is part of the usa usa usa usa usa usa usa

  2. well.u have to diffrentiate between Egypt as awhole country and Egypt as (Cairo,Alex,Sharm el Shiekh,Hurghada....)

as Egypt is one of the developing countries in compare of other developed countries such as USA,England,Japan,...

as amatter of fact the situation in Egypt becoming worse than before(high inflation rate, low productivity, high rate of unemployment, low GDP per capita with very high increasing

rate in population ) and those according to formal statistics.

so when we judge on any country wheither it's from the third world or not. we must look to it's situation (politicaly,economicaly,socialy,......)

so according to that i think that egypt surely one of the third world developing countries.

and i wanna add that Bad authority is affecting the whole sitiuarion in Egypt.

    by the way I'm Egyptian.

  3. i dont think it is anymore, no

  4. regardless the third world theory, i believe that Egypt after it was the first civilization on this planet, now it's one of the most uncivilized nations, i mean we Egyptians can't just clean our streets.

what have changed since the ancient times till present time??

  5. Egypt is a developing country .

a lot is needed before it becomes a developed country.

  6. Sadly egypt makes an enormous amount of money from its tourism. however this money is not used to aid its population and its a case of the rich get richer. There are so many things such as climate and general poverty in egypt which means so many people are living under terrible conditions. Religion and laws affect this too. Egypt is not as civilised as a western country. Its a shame because they country has so much to offer but as we well know religion is one of the biggest causes of divides and wars and until this becomes a bigger issue for the people governing egypt it will remain a third world country.

Financially it may add up to not being third world, but the people living there will tell a different story.

  7. If you ask me the answer is no!

  8. Egypt is not a third world country.

    It's a FIFTH WORLD COUNTRY.

Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.

  9. You are right the term third world country is outdated, and it is no longer used by organisations such as the UN, although the term remains in popular usage.  Instead the term LDC (that is less developed country) has been adopted, and it refers to countries that are poor in terms of world GDP.  Although Egypt's total GDP is large, it's per capita GDP is only around $5000, which is low compared to western countries.  The World Bank classifies Egypt as UMI (upper middle income), so although it has a higher income than places such as India, it is still a developing nation.  Additionally you should remember the extent of inequality in Egypt - the majority of the population is not seeing the full benefits of the countries rapid growth.

  10. yes, although i dont think its as poor as other African countries.

  11. In many of the third would countries, including Egypt, there are cities that are quite modern w/ a high standard of living..... for a few.     However, that is not the way the masses live.   If you have not been to a 3rd would country....go visit one.... even a week's visit will open your eyes.....

  12. I would say YES, it's still 3rd world country

40% of the populatin live under poverty line

    20% literacy

Huge problems with it's economy (chronic trade deficit)

    Impropper education system

Water is not safe to drink (unless u r Egyptian)

    Low labor productivity..........

All these factors & others make Egypt a 3rd world country.

that doesn't mean it's bad, but it has some problems

  13. Yes it is!
