  1. In Ireland, compulsory for those who have died of cancer.  Don't know why.  Very likely the same in UK, as we have most of our regulations originating there.


  2. It is optional.

    Not all bodies are embalmed.

    If there are no relatives who want to view the body then they won't embalm it. There is no legislation to regulate whether the body is embalmed or not.

    Most embalmers are freelance, i.e. they don't work for one particular undertaker as there is not enough embalming work to justify an undertaker employing one full time.

  3. Optional.

    However if the body was to remain for more than about three days before disposal then embalming might be necessary

  4. It is optional even if you have died of cancer.  My mum died of cancer and it was a choice we were given.  Hope this helps! x  

  5. it's optional it was popular years ago but not as much now but some people still want there loved ones embalmed
