Question:

Is Ethanol bad for my car?

I heard a news report that ethanol may be corrosive to your car. They said that this usually only applies to older cars that run with a carburetor....but I am still worried. They also mentioned something about it being damaging to the lining of fuel tanks in cars

Most of the time I get my fuel from stations that include ethanol.

I drive a 2003 Hyundai Sonata....am I worrying over nothing?

  1. He's right on everything except that its cheaper. Its cheaper to buy but because it produces less power it gets worse mileage so you end up using more so you have to buy more so its actually more expensive. I live in wisconsin and buy my gas over the bridge in Duluth Minnesota instead becaus I'm over there a few times a week and I get far better mileage on Minnesota gas than on Wisconsin gas because Wisconsin gas is always like 10 or 15% ethonal. Plus the environmental value of ethonal is a net gain/ loss of zero because of all the gas used to produce and transport it. So you're not helping anyone by using it either. Sorry to break that to you. Look it up those of you who don't believe me, after all this is yahoo, search it and get smarter...

  2. I have a fuel flex vehicle which is one that takes ethanol. i have had no probelms with my car until i started filling it up with e-85 gasoline. my car randomly stopped and turned off while was driving it so the steering and brake froze up and ive had to use the emergency brake too many times. The mechanic couldnt find a problem and was pretty sure its the cheap gas. As soon as we changed back to normal gas my car has been running fine. Regular may be more expensive but in the end its worth it.

  3. most stations only use 10% ethanol and that amount won't hurt your car but running the E-85 will do all that you read about unless your car is E-85 compliant.

  4. well if it say you can use it you can but really it will run better on anything esle better than e85 which is just cheap and they been adding ethanol to gas for 20 yrs..... you dont really want to use e85 unless your car is made for it and then your still wasting money using it.. its not better just cheaper
