Is Euro basketball's big campaign for NBA stars going to backfire?

I have a bad feeling it will. It reminds me of the Galaxy offering Beckham an enormous deal. Sure, it got a lot of fanfare, but in the end, MLS is still not that popular. If the dollar situation shifts and the American economy improves, Euro basketball and the players they recruit might regret offering those deals. This reeks of publicity stunt anyways. Josh Childress is kind of weird anyways, that explains why he might have taken the deal. I don't think he fit in with most NBA players, personality wise.

  1. it's different, because the Euro teams aren't taking any NBA "stars"...they're taking NBA role players, who will be role players across the pond, but will make more money.

I think having an NBA player will benefit the team from a marketing standpoint, but it's not like they got Dwayne Wade or Kobe Bryant, so the affect will be minimal.

  2. I think that Euro Basketball poses a legitimate threat to the NBA by the standpoint of economics.

When players such as Dwayne Wade talk about how if he got $40 million a year to play in Europe tax free, he'd do it, I can really believe that he would. Wade already has a ring and if he produces the stats that he has now for 5-8 more years, he's a first ballot HOF. The only way that this could hurt him, has more to do with his HOF chances.

I think that it may be a matter of time before we see above average NBA talent head overseas and take the money, because of the declining dollar and the strengthing Euro. Europeans love basketball almost as much as soccer and tennis, and the owners over there aren't afraid to spend the money necessary to build a better brand of basketball.

  3. If they take nobodies like Childress. Yes.

    It's all about marketing.

  4. Hows it going to backfire?Fans love basketball over there and the teams have the money to pay the contracts.lol Campaign?Look

players come here and play and now a few go there .BIG DEAL!!

What should we have congress look into it?Maybe the FBI or the CIA?
