Question:

Is Federer as we've known him gone for good?

Blake just beat Federer. I'm not saying that the talent isn't still there, but other guys are seeming to finally raise their games to his. Also other guys believe they can beat him and he believes he can be beat. He certainly doesn't seem to be what he was. He's still great, but are the days of him cruising through the tour at will over?

  1. yup

  2. Fed is done cruising through the tour. The new comers are raising their level of play. Rafa also killed Roger in the French Open. His days of brilliance are over. We all have to face the facts. He'll be lucky if he makes it far in The U.S. Open. I don't see any slams in the future for him.

  3. That could happen. It has a good chance. He does know that he is going to get beaten! He's different now, a lot older, and he doesn't have that same firing energy. :)

  4. You people sound sadistic!  Federer is the greatest player in history.  He never as you say "cruised" through anything.  He won with great talent and hard work.  And he will win many times again, more than anyone else will, believe it!!!

  5. I agree with Mario its actually quite an insult when pple say others are raising their game. Federer is clearly going thru a tough time but its not because others have improved-hes got worse. So in saying that it kinda implys his 12 grand slams were a fluke cos he got no comp.

Federer as we know him has gone... for good? I dunno. Maybe for now. I still think he'll be back cos he said he'llbe playing for a long time yet so that form is bound to return at some point- prob just not for 4 years. Really sad he missed out on his Olympic dream, unlucky it had to happen this year.

  6. He's in a slump. Gone for good? No.

  7. Federer has won 12 grandslams before reaching the age of 30,compiled a list of broken records as long as my arm, has been hailed by many as the GOAT, he doesn't win everything like he normally does and now everyone says he's finished. Federer winning percentage is 80% this year and he's got the second best win-loss record behind Rafa, on top of that 2 grandslam finals, the semi's at the Aussie Open with mono I might add, and the Quarters at the Olympics, that doesn't sound like somebody whose "gone for good" to me. Though some people would like it, Federer is not going anywhere anytime soon, he's still young, healthy, and obviously has allot of fight inside him to keep going and further build his legend. It's obvious he's going through a slump, big deal, every great player went through the same thing, but Federer isn't a quitter and he obviously still believes in himself enough to keep going out there and trying to win despite the whole world ganging up on him. Federer had a bad day against Blake, there's nothing he can do about it, now he needs to concentrate on getting ready for the US Open. The era of Federer on the ATP tour isn't over until he retires, which won't be for quite a long time.
