  1. Roger Federer IS playing at the Olympics! he said it was one of his career goals to get a gold medal after last olympics disappointment. Andy Roddick will NOT be representing the USA in Beijing, he wants to concentrate on trying to win the US open. Andy Murray said he WILL play at the Olympics. Justine Henin will be playing for Belgium at the Olympics. Maria Sharapova wants to compete at the Olympics but there is doubt to whether the country will pick her for the Russian team. NADAL said he is very much focussed on competing and winning at the Olympic games, ofcourse representing Spain. Hope this helps.

  2. Well I would have to say that yes Federer is planning to play for Switzerland at the olympic games, and that a great deal of top men and women's players will also be representing their countries as well.

I think Roddick and Blake are good beats for the U.S. and possibly Sam Querry.  Nadal is a must for Spain, but also look for Moya to play and Ferrer.  Andy Murray, Thomas Berdych, Richard Gasquet and Tsonga.  Many others including Nalbandian and Davydenko and Djokovic.  Probably most of the top twenty-five or so.

For the women it's going to be slightly different.  They are required to have played team competition twice in the last four years, which means that some top players are not yet qualified.  Henin may have a spot, but that one i'm not sure about.  Ivanovic and Jankovic are in, as well as Kuznetsova, Chakvetadze, Dementieva, and Hantuchova.  Sharapova, Serena, and Venus all need one more team competition to qualify, and with Russia beating the U.S. in Fed Cup play, it looks like only Sharapova will have a chance at gaining her Olympic Dreams.  Other players may include Patty Schnyder, Sybille Bammer, Amilie Mauresmo, Shuai Peng, Ai Sugiyama, Dominkic Cibulkova, Vera Zvonareva, Dinara Safina, and so many more.

It's all really a toss up as to who is qualified to play, and who actually wants to play.  I think we can expect to see a hand full of top ranked players and a lot of players in the 70-30 ranking during the olympics this year.

  3. i think so

  4. Roger Federer is participating in Olympics and would be representing Switzerland. He has been given the privilege to hold his country's flag at the opening ceremony, which is an honor and the opening ceremony is on Aug 8th, which also happens to be his birthday. It does not matter if he stays at a hotel or a village as long as he is participating in Olympics and representing his country. Rafa, Justine, Maria are participating too, and I am not sure about the other players.

  5. I read something earlier this year in which Federer said he would only play at the Olympics if he didn't have to stay in the Olympic Village, because that's what supposedly messed him up in Athens.  What a diva.

  6. Switzerland - Federer

    Spain - Nadal

    Slovakia - Hantuchova

    Russia - Sharapova

    Belgium - Henin

    -----------

As of now they are the ones who I know that will be participating.
