Is Feminism the sole cause of division between the sexes?

Or are their other factors which are responsibile for the division of men and women such as the mens rights movement, anti-Feminism, or even possibly that the division has been there all along?

Thoughts?

  1. Men and women are different physically, psychologically  in every way possible. The sexes are divided because they are different.Thats the FACT. The brain structure, the physical structure, the psychological components, social upbringing, etc etc...everything points to it. The whole concept of equal rights is a fallacy if you consider this. Men and women will have different rights and the goal of feminism should be to get women the rights they deserve. So Feminism may be responsible for creating a rift between the sexes instead of seeking to co-exist.

Read Carol Gilligan's "In a different world".

  2. Men and women are totally different. Nature is what divides us.

  3. I believe organized religions created the divisions when society allowed priests and priestess to assign certain societal roles to each s*x.  Personally I think the emergence of male-dominated patriarchal religions is  the very first masculist movement to have ever taken place.  It was a reaction to the early matriarchal societies that went awry.

Rather than balancing things out to create an equal society partriarchal religion made women men's property and marganlized their value in society.

Placing inequitable value to the roles and jobs that women and men were assigned to do just fanned the flames of division.  Feminism was and is a necessary reaction to those things.  While the feminists movement has had it's extremist men and women would be divided even further than they  are now had there been no reactionary movement  to the patriarchal one.  The challenge for pure feminist now is to make sure that  misandrist do not hijack the feminist movement.  The goal should be a balance.  We've already seen what happens in one-gender dominated societies.

  4. I think there has always been a division simply because men and women are different. I think that the people who try to claim that men and women are completely equal are just as wrong as people who try to pretend like different races don't have differences. They're either dumb or in denial. There are obvious differences between men and women. The key is not to deny these differences but rather to NOT treat the differences as a bad thing.

Anyways, so yeah... I thin there has always been a division between the sexes because the two sexes are so different in many ways and have always had different roles in society in every culture that has ever existed on earth.

Plus, it's difficult for the sexes to get along because they both want each other, but have different ways for going about it and different ideas about it. So the two sexes clash against each other and get mad at each other when really they want to be with the other and so it gets all complicated.

  5. I rarely see a division- well yes, occasionally we'll have to replace a broken prophylactic->  BADABOOEY  ~:-O

  6. Division??

Remember way back when women couldn't vote, got all the menial tasks for employment because their only job in life involved getting married & having children so they wouldn't be worth promotion, couldn't get served in a public bar & had to go out back to the 'ladies lounge', etc, etc.

What division do you speak of? Germaine Greer et al & their supporters have given me a lot better work & social life than I could ever think of if everything remained the same as before them. And I'm a guy.

  7. yes, its all because of the naughty feminists

  8. Sole cause ??? , It does drive a grand wedge though.

  9. Until men see women as their equal, with the same rights and priviledges as men as human beings..That division will remain.

We FEMALES Maybe Physically weaker But I would Love to See a Real biological Man Give birth.  A group of Women Can in Fact get together and perform tasks that require Strength.  As Prior Service Army I know that to be a Fact!  A Lot of Them are Real Cute and Feminine Too..Some Are Marines, Army, Navy and Airforce....Defending an ungrateful Nation that includes men and children.

  10. 2 sections of feminism, in this respect... 1) The division of the sexes and 2) equality for women.

The prosex feminists of the 2nd wave and current Libertarians were(are) known to be for 2, while the radical anti-s*x fems were known to be 1.

How does Gender politics divide the sexes(genders)? Well, any type of politics is exactly that... a division.

When feminists fight against men have equal rights, then it is entirely divisive(The more moderate feminists say "s***w you. Who cares if we're sexist... then you should do something about it instead of whining." instead of actually fighting against men's equal rights. We're basically lucky if their position is "We're sexist. Do something about it if you don't like it"). They're right here on this forum.

  11. Feminism is not a sole cause - in fact, it has created more uniformity between the genders. People beleiving genders are different is the main cause of division. Or gender stereotyping. This leads to social conditioning.

Despite what some people above have said, there are very little innate differences between the genders. Physically maybe. In terms of brains, some (not a great amount) and how this physical implementation difference effects to functional is actually minimal (our brains tendto reach the end result, particularly in higher order processing). And individual differences account for more variation than gender does. When people start to understand this, then there will be less division.

Feminist and anti-feminist groups are more a result of these devisions than a cause.

  12. Nope since women haven't been equal in many societies in the world at any time-might has usually been right in the past. To a certain extent-military and physical power still holds women and children captive in many countries-as well as males who are lower on the pecking order. It will remain this way in most societies until intelligence and compassion is valued as much as physical strength and power. Feminism has shined a bright light on the ugliness of some male-female relationships and their families-where battering rape and incest were the order of the day. Just because the light is on doesn't mean people understand how to respect each other-obviously as this forum demonstrates-there are plenty of people who despise women.

  13. No. There was a divide long before feminism, and feminists were the ones who exposed it. Now it's just changed reasons.

  14. i belive that the problem isnt that men think less of women its women thinking that men think less of them. if that makes sence.  i belive sexism is alot like raceism in the way that it realy isnt there alot but it is cried out by people anyway. it is hard for me to realy express my thoughts this way, i would rather talk but this will have to surfice

  15. patriarchy has done the most harm to the sexes. it created privileges for men and made women domesticated, demure and submissive. therefore, they could be walked on like a doormat.

feminism has tried to empower women to be autonomous human beings, equal politically socially and economically, with human rights intact.

the current division is by defensive men who cant live in a world where they know their wife can call the cops on them for abuse, walk out of a loveless or abusive marriage, earn more than them, not be "demure" and take their bs.

most men are quite happy with the fruits of feminism - double incomes, more fathering, women who are more like equals....

the ones who aren't....well, you've met them on this forum.

  16. Not the sole cause, but merely a contributing factor.

The first wave of feminism served it's purpose of giving women equal rights. Contrary to what feminists will have you believe, abortion is a human rights issue. Men also fought hard for the right to choose. The right to choose was afforded to women because of the constitution of the United States, not because of feminism. But I digress...

Since feminism has become obsolete in the practical sense, it has become a movement of special privilege and entitlement. It is affirmative action for the female ego. Women have been put on a pedestal and if women are treated as equals by men, those men will be seen as sexist. So yes, it has contributed to division between sexes.

Feminism by definition pits itself against the males phallus. Feminism cannot exists without division. It must find division in order to feed, and if doesn't find division, it will create it.
