  1. It is definately an upset but I don't know if it would be the biggest. A few people were picking Fiji to win and most people were expecting a close game.

Wales lost to Samoa in the 1991 RWC (16-13). It was a much greater upset than the one we saw today. Wales were still highly regarded in 1991 and Samoa were written off completely.

Another contender for the greatest upset would be France beating the All Blacks in the 1999 semi final. The ABs were raging hot favourites for the game and the French had been very average in the tournament.

Both of the above examples (91 and 99) stunned everybody. Nobody saw them coming at all. Wales lastest humilation is a surprise but not a complete shock.

  2. big time,Fiji,Tonga and Samoa come from populations of under 250,000 people in each Island,if that. These countries come here on basically nothing but the love and support from home.Wales is one of the top rugby nations in the world, they have the player base ,the money, the stadiums and top line coaches, this is like New Zealand beating Scotland in Soccer, well done Fiji, and this is the upset of the Tournament and apart from Samoa beating Wales and Argentina in previous Cups, this victory for Fiji is the upset of the Tournament because fiji have never beaten a six nations side and was the underdog.

  3. I would say so....................well the Welsh are bl00dy upset anyway:((

  4. No it`s not ...England beating Australia in 2003 was .

  5. England winning it last time - that was quite a surprise for everyone.

  6. Two greater upsets come to mind.

In the opening match of this year's RWC, when Argentina beat France.

And the previous match, the final match of the 2003 RWC when England stole the cup from a far superior Australia

  7. Wales were never expected to be title contenders so I would say no... The greatest upsets would have been when a team that was expected to win the World Cup was beaten by another side that wasnt expected to win - so the biggest upsets of Rugby World Cup history have happened in the last three world cups where New Zealand was beaten 1995 against South Africa, 1999 against France and 2003 against Australia.

  8. The fidji , tonga , samoa are really near the best rugby team

They just need more big match

    so its half surprise

if the 3 nations got this team in them championship......
