  1. The internet is not faster but firefox will load faster. Internet explorer is integrated into the OS and it requires alot more resources than firefox does. Firefox is "lighter" than internet explorer and is more user friendly and way more organized.

  2. Firefox is faster. Before Firefox 3 there was no noticable difference, but Firefox 3's default settings change that. There is a thing called HTTP Pipelining. It decides how many requests the browser will send to a server at any one time. I won't go into detail about it here, but the upshot is, the higher the number, the faster pages will load, but the higher risk there is of final bits of data being cut off or "Network Timeout" errors being displayed.

There is a well documented problem with Firefox's memory usage, where it can take up to 300000 kbs of RAM.

Also, Firefox has been proven to stream videos faster, although I don't know why.

Speed isn't the reason you should get Firefox, though. You should get firefox for an innovative GUI and new heights of customizability.

Opera is the fastest browser, so if speed is your primary concern, get that instead.

  4. FF uses less memory than any other browser, this will generally make browsing faster.

FF also supports webstandards better, this helps with speed also

You can try the webstandards test here

Opera is a good overall browser, but it lacks all the cool addons that FF has. It does have "widgets" though

I have 19 extensions on my FF browser, I can't tell that my browsing is slower yet. From the past, I have had about 25 extensions on FF, & this did start slowing down my browsing. Then again, it depends on what extensions you use. There are a few extensions that have memory leaks, but most are fine.

So like I said, it depends
