  1. No, flavor is a sensation that matter (food) causes on your tongue.

Think about it this way... Is sight matter?

  2. I don't think so, I think it what goes in our mouth that is matter,,, Flavor  is a few things,,,Our tongues actually taste different things on different areas. Hot and spicy on the back part, which also sends receptors to the brain that make you feel kinda horny or in pain. Sweet and sour on the sides and sweet towards the tip. Salty towards the middle. Also if you couldn't smell you wouldn't taste anything. Next time you eat hold your nose and take a bite you'll taste nothing so does that mean there was no flavor...Hmmmm another question..

  3. Flavor is caused by matter, but is really an electrical and chemical reaction in your brain. The brain's reaction is the result a neural signal which starts or is the result of a chemical reaction in receptors on your tongue and nose to their exposure to specific types of chemical compounds. Acidic materials for example lead to the perception of a sour flavor.

  4. Is red matter?  Is hot matter?  Is loud matter? Is ouch matter?

Congratulations you gotten to a chem class without this knowledge, and very few people have, I'm sure.

    Flavor is a sensation.

A sensation is a PROCESS that goes on in the brain (and one could argue the mouth, nose and throat).

Flavorings, ARE matter.  Is that what you meant?

One symptom of brain tumors are strange tastes (flavors).   Are they matter?

An interesting aside, it wasn't that long ago that Western Science finally acknowledged what Asian cooks had known for a long time: that there are five basic flavors, not four.  Four were still taught when I was in school.  Salty, Sweet, Bitter, Sour and the "latest" Glutamate - which is sort of like a meaty taste.  MonoSodium Glutamate (MSG) is often loaded into chinese take-out food to make it tase better.

Matter is something which occupies space and has mass (weight).

How much does sweet weigh?, how large is "salty"?

So matter can CAUSE sensations, but you need to separate the cause and the effect.
