Question:

Is Fleury the only reason the Penguins are still in it?

The Red Wings have thouroughly outplayed the Penguins all series long, yet the Penguins still managed two victories. As much as I hate to, I have to admit that he is having a heck of a series. If they some how manage to beat the superior team and win the cup, then he has to win the Smythe, because nobody else on the team deserves it.

  1. Fleury is the only reason why they even made the second round.

  2. Fluery AND Hall have been the MVPs.

  3. Pretty much, yes, just based on last night. Fleury is certainly not the only reason the Pens made it this far, though. And don't forget how good of a job Conklin did during much of the regular season when Fleury was out.

Also, this series has become closer than you think. The Pens won two of the last three games, and the one they lost was only by a goal in which they previously had the lead. And I don't know why you hate to admit Fleury is playing great this series despite Detroit being up 3-2.

  4. The Wings always seem to run into one of those goalies that can stop 40-50 shots in a couple incredible games. Sometimes they get stuck (Kiprisoff, Giguere), but in best of 7 they can usually win it.

  5. Sure, nobody else is playing to there potential. typical of a lot of goalies, although the Red Wings will still win and do sometimes lose, they always have a knack for making other goalies look like they are playing better than they really are.

  6. Fleury is a huge reason that the series is now 3-2. He busted his butt the last two games. He is working hard while other Pens are fading. I kind of feel for him.

  7. That distinction may go to Kronwall at the moment. As good as Fleury has played he hasn't scored any of Pittsbugh's goals yet. The series has gotten a lot more interesting since he stepped up his play, though.

  8. he is definatly the one that kept them from losing last nights game and has completely been on top of his game.

although he is still not the only reason, some of the other other players have really stepped up to keep them in this.

but he is still a HUGE reason they're not done.

  9. ye last game fleury wuz awesome did u c the save 2 on 1 and he saved it im like this is so in and them im like omg!!!

  10. No, he's not the only reason but he's a big part of the reason why they are still in it

  11. Fleury is the reason the Red Wings didn't win the Cup last night.

  12. For the most part yes.

Also team work, confidence has made them go this far.

Gary Roberts talking to the team before the game must have helped.

  13. From the beginning of this series, I said the Pens would win in 7.  If the Penguins win this series, it will be one the greatest stories in all of sports history.  Having such a young team to overcome the diversity and facing a team with so much experience, the Pens can shock the world.  This series is almost like David vs Goliath.  Pens are the underdog and they proved last night in game 5 that they are just as good as the Red Wings.  Yeah yeah yeah you can say that the Wings outplayed the Penguins all game, but that's what makes it so remarkable.  Fleury deserves MVP of this series as he basically won the Penguins this game.  Stopping 55 of 58 shots?  That's incredible.  The Penguins were also outshot, but it does not matter.  What matters is that the Pens got more goals on the board than the Red Wings.  Not being bias or anything, but Detroit is the better team no doubt; however, Pittsburgh is riding the roller coaster of momentum.  That's why Pittsburgh will win this series in 7, they will fight their way to their 3rd Stanley Cup.

  14. hands down, no doubt about it, Fleury was the player of the game last night. i don't care about the goals scored or whatever.... he was clearly the best on the ice last night.

but yes, fleury IS one of the main components of why the pens are still in the series.

  15. Probably. He faced Way more shots on goal than Osgood did, and was practically bullet proof in the OT's.  All in all, pretty amazing play by the Pens in general last night, They earned that victory, for sure. (this from a die hard Wings fan, BTW).  Here's hoping that game 6 is as exciting, but with a different outcome.

  16. nope its the whole team
