Question:

Is Fox news actively trying to deflate the Dem convention?

Last night during the convention, every station was covering it and letting the dems have their moment to shine. I switched it to Fox news and what did I see? I saw the large lettered caption "BREAKING NEWS" as if there was some sort of emergency. They were saying that Obama was in big trouble due to his association with Willliam Ayers. This is old news, and since that I've heard nobody talk about it. How was this "breaking news"? Wasn't it clearly just a way to detract from the democrat convention?

  1. That's its job.

If it's not doing that, it is a dereliction of duty.

  2. What do you expect from a company that SUED for the right to lie during their news broadcasts?

The Right to Lie in the "News"

If ever we needed to know why the biggest media consumers in the world are so badly informed, this pretty well tells it all. The Media Can Legally Lie.

According to Akre and Wilson, the station was initially very excited about the series. But within a week, Fox executives and their attorneys wanted the reporters to use statements from Monsanto representatives that the reporters knew were false and to make other revisions to the story that were in direct conflict with the facts. Fox editors then tried to force Akre and Wilson to continue to produce the distorted story. When they refused and threatened to report Fox's actions to the FCC, they were both fired.Akre and Wilson sued the Fox station and on August 18, 2000, a Florida jury unanimously decided that Akre was wrongfully fired by Fox Television when she refused to broadcast (in the jury's words) “a false, distorted or slanted story” about the widespread use of BGH in dairy cows. [...] FOX appealed the case, and on February 14, 2003 the Florida Second District Court of Appeals unanimously overturned the settlement awarded to Akre. The Court held that Akre’s threat to report the station’s actions to the FCC did not deserve protection under Florida’s whistle blower statute, because Florida’s whistle blower law states that an employer must violate an adopted “law, rule, or regulation." In a stunningly narrow interpretation of FCC rules, the Florida Appeals court claimed that the FCC policy against falsification of the news does not rise to the level of a "law, rule, or regulation," it was simply a "policy." Therefore, it is up to the station whether or not it wants to report honestly. During their appeal, FOX asserted that there are no written rules against distorting news in the media. They argued that, under the First Amendment, broadcasters have the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on public airwaves.Fox attorneys did not dispute Akre’s claim that they pressured her to broadcast a false story, they simply maintained that it was their right to do so.

OK, pick your jaw up off the floor. That some court thinks they CAN is bad enough, that these people assert their right to do so pretty well kicks it all down the hole. And these guys wonder why their credibility is in the toilet and the net is burning them left right and centre.Oh, and February 2003, 30 days before Iraq.

  3. Because it was breaking news.  Someone is researching all of the files having to do with their past association.  Stay tuned for some interesting things that will be coming out.

  4. ONE station that isnt a socialist media w***e out of thosands . Let them do their thing, since they are number 1 in ratings they must do something right

  5. There is no doubt about it.  Consider the following:

    1) Even *if* something new were discovered about the connection between Obama and Ayers, how would that be breaking news more important than the Dem National Convention?  This is a guy who did some things (which Obama has condemned) when Obama was a little kid, before he knew Ayers.  So what's the breaking news, that they had lunch together the other day?  Who cares?

    2) Do you think it's a coincidence that Fox News made this "breaking news discovery" during the Dem Convention?  Not a chance.  I'm just surprised they didn't wait to pre-empt Obama's acceptance speech with it.

    3) I read that during Nancy Pelosi's speech, Bill O'Reilly waved his hand in her direction dismissively and continued talking about other subjects.  Granted CNN didn't cover the Pelosi speech either, but they didn't show her the disrespect and contempt that Fox News did.

All in all this is simply what we've come to expect from faux news.  It's little more than a right-wing propaganda source.

  6. They should change their name to FOX PROPAGANDA

  7. Marching orders from Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch.

  8. it's fox news, it's filled by a bunch of neo-conservatives

  9. Considering that ABC NBC CBS MSNBC CNN are all in the tank for Obama, I find Fox News refreshing.

  10. That fact that anybody considers Fox news a reliable source of information, boggles the mind. It is one thing to be a hardcore con but it's another thing to be blinded by that loyalty.

  11. Fox is the alternative news network to CNN and MSNBC.

It can say and do what it wants that is what is called freedom of the press. Trust me at the Republican convention CNN and MSNBC will do the exact same thing they show who they favor all the time.

There is no such thing as unbiased coverage anymore.

  12.    If the words "BREAKING NEWS" used by Fox News are a big worry to you, I pity you and your stubborn views.  Stubborn like a mule or donkey with blinders.  It's not a coincedence that the DNC icon is the latter (sans blinders).  Bill and Hillary are doing enough, along with former Democrats to unrail Obama's presidential aspirations.

Fox News reports the news and stories that MSNBC, CNN, CBS, NBC, and ABC seem to convieniently ignore.  I will agree that some conservative bias is present there, but if you would compare the news networks as well as the ratings of such, you will see that most viewers prefer FNC's reporting.  I expect that you are not going to do so and therefore I consider you a lost cause.  "Fair and Balanced?"  I don't know.  "More Fair and More Balanced", without question.  Believe It!

  13. Well.........naturally, duh. That's the whole point of Fox News.

  14. every one should watch it tonight to find out the answer to this question.  I promise they won't have to watch it longer than five minutes to get the answer.  After that they can turn to a real news station.

  15. it was breaking news......thats why you didnt here it before.if barack odambamerica hangs with rev.wright, bill ayers and rezko.how do you not see these people are his mentors and he shares the same hate america mentality as these twisted people.the democratic convention is a bust.

  16. They are just bitter that they never got to do any debates and they will try their best to make the Democratic Convention look inferior to the Republicans. And they have figured the way they can do that is by not covering it, and showing tabloid news instead. But then again it is Fox News, what else can you expect.

  17. To answer your question, no they are not.  It was breaking news because the files are being researched and new information is coming out.

The fact that the other networks have the same information but are suppressing it should be more suspicious to everyone than the fact that FOX is reporting it!

Wow - I guess any network that does not have its anchors getting all tingly over Obama is up to no good in the eyes of the public.  How sad.  People don't even recognize impartiality when they see it...

  18. No. Fox News was being responsible and exposing Obama for what he really is. Information all concerned citizens should know about him.
