Is France a good location to hold golf tournaments?
France is a European country and has a rich culture. It also has the most number of tourist visits every year. Some of the attractions in France are Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and Mont Saint Michel.
Besides the monuments there are other attractions in France as well. It has a great variety of golf courses all over the country.
These are so beautiful and enormous that even the people who do not play golf visit them. These golf courses in France are designed by some of the world’s most famous architects.
There is also a rich diversity in the landscape of the country. This makes it impossible for any two courses to be alike. Thus, a person cannot get bored while continuously looking at the same scenery.
People from all over the world visit these courses to play on them. With the passage of time, this has emerged into a huge industry.
Presently there are about 600 golf courses all over the country. There are four French courses in the top-10 of the 2000 Golf Magazine’s best Golf Courses Ranking.
Many tours and championships take place on these golf courses. The French Open, organized by the European Tour also takes place on one of the most prestigious golf courses in France, the National Golf course.
Many of the women’s majors and Championships in the recent years have taken place in France.
Even the golf’s greatest event, the Ryder Cup is also taking place in France in the year 2018. The tournament is going to return to the European soil after 21 years.
This event is going to be held in the outskirts of Paris, Le Golf National.
"In 1979, the Ryder Cup experienced a renaissance by the inclusion of Continental Europe," said PGA of America’s President.
"We share today in another milestone as the 42nd Ryder Cup, contested in 2018, visits France, expanding golf's most compelling event to an exciting new venue and across a new border. We celebrate with the citizens of France, as they begin their journey to
add to the rich history of the Ryder Cup".
All have tremendous expectations from this tournament and are hoping for it to be one of the best Ryder Cups ever.
Some of the world class golf courses in France are Morfontaine, Les Bordes, Chantilly, National, Fontainebleau, Prince de Provence, Sperone, Terre Blanche, Kempferhof and St Germain.
These all are huge and beautiful courses. Any tournament can easily be managed in any one of them.
Over the years, France has been successful in producing great professional golfers such as Gregory Bourdy, Gregory Havret and Victor Dubuisson.
Besides the courses, the climate in France is reasonable for playing golf. All round the year, the weather remains almost the same. This is due to the fact that France shares one of its borders with the Atlantic.
In the eastern part of the country, the winters are pleasant and summers are hot and stormy. The southern part of the country has a better climate for golf than the eastern.
In the south, winters are cool and there are often chances of rain. On the other hand, summers are hot and dry.
These reasons and many more contribute to making France one of the best locations for golf.
