Question:

Is Francisco "K-Rod" Rodriguez being overused by the Angels??? Will his Free Agent value go down?

He has been used in 65 games this year, and 59.1 innings, and we still have a month to go. Does this heavy workload decrease his value? What about CC Sabathia???

  1. no k rod is the best closer out there there is no question about it.  he has a 15 million dollar deal.  which will only go up as he breaks and extends the record.  which means big ol bonus and looked at by every team in the country.  k rod is not getting worn out he is durable and strong with a fastball that can go from anywhere from 93-97.  and plus his curvball is amazing.  so heres the deal k rod gets big ol bonus check and a whole lot of money for a reassignment  or a new team.

no cc will stay a milwakie brewer and will stay there as longs as the offer him a deal.  and he is not worn out he is just an amzing player.  and hopefully thats where he stays.

  2. He is as durable as you get with a pitcher so his value is going up up up plus he is going to break the saves record which will also make it go up.....he is the best closer in the game he can throw his curve for strikes has a mid 90's fastball and a lot of confidence.....but the angels will never let him go because he has won so many 1 run games for them this year specially earlier in the season when they couldnt score at all....his value right now is as high as it will ever be

    cheers

  3. 59.1 innings is not being overused.  Just check out the IP by other closers and you'll see he's right in line with the others.

    Jose Valverde 64.0

    Mariano Rivera 61.2

    Joakim Soria 60.0

    Jonathan Papelbon 59.0

    Joe Nathan 59.0

Heck even Kerry Wood has 57.2 innings and he didn't even pitch from July 12th to August 4th.

By the way, he's only won 2 one run games for the Angels this season.  He has saved 21 one run games though.

  4. 59 innings is hardly overused. Modern-day closers are the most overrated players in baseball. The save is stupidly easy stat to achieve and the current closers just milk it for millions. Let's see a real closer who can go three innings when you need him.

My feelings on closers aside, setting the single season saves record will only make his value go up. Way up. And he needs the appearances in order to do that.

  5. No by using him more means that he will get more $$$ wat he wants

    CC will stay a MB

  6. You know that Mike Marshall had 208 innings of total relief (no starts) one year for the Dodgers.

That's why saves and closers are so wishy washy now a days.  60 innings, big deal.

Gossage, Sutter and Fingers had to go 2 or 3 innings on a lot of occasions.

  7. He's only 25.  And he's going for one of the longest current individual records.  The Angels are trying to capitalize on this as much as possible.  If and when he breaks Bobby Thigpen's record, he will get the highest paid contract extension for a reliever, ever, by the angels.  Think of how easy it would be for the Angels to market and profit him for the rest of his career.

  8. Good question. Let's do the math.

First we'll round it off to 5 months of  pitching and that works out to approximately 12 innings per month, which works out to be very close to 3 innings per week. An inning is 3 outs. So Francisco is asked to get 9 outs per week. "BFD". "Poor Baby", Oops, I meant "Rich Baby".

    59 1/3 innings equal 178 outs.

KRod is being paid $ 8,333,333 for 5 months of getting 178 outs.

Try $ 46,816.00 and change for each out.

If this is "overwork", I will take it.
