As long as there is an unobstructed signal to be received you should be able to receive GPS positioning information.

I would say GPS signal is very accurate, it is the maps that you should worry about, the Lat / Long information is accurate and to me, it is better to have a GPS for the country you are visiting than not to have one at all.

you can always use way-points and tracks to know where you have been and how to get back to point of origin.

For world travel, I would recommend a Garmin or TomTom navigation system depending on the country you are visiting.

Due to roadworks, traffic accidents, bad weather, road maintenance etc, etc, GPS is never reliable in any country...
