Most people I Know in OZ consider Ablett as the greatest footballer of all time, and the '89 grandfinal is considered as the best premiership ever, with the greatest single performance in history from Gary Ablett. Now only a few would argue that fact, so what do you think, yes or no.

  1. Perhaps the best individual performance in a Grand Final but not of all time.

  2. Not sure. Probably is, he did beat Jack Collins' record...

  3. the bloke was a dead set champion, and it was probably the best individual effort in a team that lost a grand final- for sure, not so sure about best ever but would definitely be up there.

  4. No. Fred Fanning kicked 18 goals in a match and his record hasn't been beaten yet.

  5. its right up there he nearly won the flag for the cats

  6. I don't think it was the greatest performance ever.  I don't get what people saw in Gary Ablett, I don't think he was a that great a player, yes he was good but not great.  There are so many better players than him eg Leigh Matthews, Wayne Carey,  Chris Judd, and Michael Voss, just to name a few.  I thought Ablett was obnoxious and overated, so are his sons Gary Jnr and Nathan Ablett, they have only made it to top level AFL because of who their father is.
