  4. Yes the Country of GEORGIA - ( not the "State")

    Georgia is a transcontinental country,

    partially in Eastern Europe and

partially in Southwest Asia in the Caucasus region.

    It is bordered to the

    North by the Russian Federation,

    East by Azerbaijan,

West across the Black Sea by Ukraine,

    South by Armenia

and to the southwest by Turkey

Georgia is also called Sakartvelo (Georgian: საქართველო) and is formerly the Republic of Georgia ( Part of the Soviet Union - Russia at that time)

So Yes , it is near Russia -

In Georgia the early post-Soviet years were marked by a civil unrest and economic crisis.

Georgia began to gradually stabilize in 1995, and achieved more effective functioning of state institutions following a bloodless change of power in the so-called Rose Revolution of 2003.

However, Georgia continues to suffer from the unresolved secessionist conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Currently Relations with Russia remain tense over these issues as well as Georgia’s aspiration of NATO membership.

The current conflict is a result of these issues.

    Hope that helps,

    Peace

  10. The country 'Georgia' was originally a part of U.S.S.R. It is geographically adjacent to the original Soviet Union. It is one of the many soviet states that broke off from Russia as the original Soviet Union crumbled. Georgia became an independent country thereafter.

It is not to be confused with the U.S.A. state of Georgia, which is still a part of the United States of America and is in this part of the world. (Very far from russia!)

  11. Another American student.

Georgia borders Russia.  It's an independent country, used to be part of the Soviet Empire and doesn't want to repeat the experience.

  12. It is a small country just to the west of russia.
