Is German a hard language to lean?

I will be have to take a forgin language next year and German interest me. I don't want to take Spanish because everyone else is and this seemed like something different. Can anyone tell me if this is difficult if this is your first time leaning a new language? "Danke!"

Bah. Just because they have similar roots, doesn't mean they're the same. English has just as much French/Latin influence as it has Germanic.
