I had it one time at a restaurant, and what I had was a little sour, and a friend told me its got both sour and bitter flavors. Plus they use sauerkraut, vinegar, red cabbage, salted sausages, pickles, and mustard.

  6. Certain dishes that contain sauerkraut, yes, are going to be a little sour.

But there are many MORE dishes that have potatoes, dumplings,  REGULAR cabbage, or other things rather than k***t.

I wouldn't say that it's usually sour.  But most Americans are only familiar with the ones that ARE.  I like the stuffed, rolled flank steak.  It's called rolauten.  Not sure of the spelling, but pronounced roll-ought-ten.  Try it!

I think your generalization, if reversed, would lead people to believe that most American food is tublar or flat, and fits in a bun.

My mother was born in Austria and I grew up on Germanic cooking.  Best desserts in the world.

  7. What your friend says is true but I would not say it is usually sour. German food made properly is excellent.

  8. it's very commonly sour
