my sensible opinion is that its a natural cycle the world goes through , i think its happened before many times and could explain the extinction of dinosaurs etc..

  1. No. The southern Martian Polar ice cap  is melting, and the Ice Age that we've been living in seems to be warming up. Furthermore, there are indications that Jupiter is developing another red spot (rotation storm), and the solar max output has been higher than usual.

Perhaps if you pay indulgences to Al Gore's carbon offset company, the God's will smile upon us again.

Personally, I'm still waiting for spring. I'm getting too old for this extended cold weather.

  2. What's your 'realistic-balanced-opinion' based on the scientific observations, the heat absorption physics of the CO2 molecule, and the amplifyer effect of CO2 and other greenhouse gases in response to solar radiation changes caused by changes in the earth's orbit around the sun?

An opinion based on one documentary probably means you simply want to believe it's not real - wish I could, 'cos it's a lot of bother this climate change thing. But I need way more evidence than that to convince me that the warming world is not because we chuck millions of tonnes of greenhouse gases into the air per year.

  3. Bollox- balls   Ha ha!!

I watched a show the other day Not BBC grrrrrrrrrr!

but a american and the show was on global warming!

the lead scientist for Ice research said that the samples he took from iceland did show warming and ice age periods for millions of years but that the indications he found would not support any cycles or Bollox being sold today!

he found that the Ice age and warming cycles could start or end so fast that it was impossible for anyone to say one way or the other. he showed where near the same temps and warming cycle's the past few years were followed the very next year by a very cold period for reasons unknown? go figure! Mother nature has a mind of her own DUH!!!!!!!!!!!

Bollox my Vote is Bollox man!    can I buy you a Cold Pint?

  4. Actually it is called Global Climate Change and the evidence is huge that it really is happening and changing the earth too fast.  The main reason it is called climate change is that some areas will have wrose colder winters and some areas will have worse warmer summers.  You are clearly not a scientist, but you seem to want to learn about it, so I'll explain as best I can.  (^:

    In brief.....

    1. Scotland has been having fewer and fewer ski days on their mountains and some ski resorts are now closed because of warming in that area.  The 3rd link below deals with the ski industry and in Scotland it is predicted to totally be gone in 20 years or so.

    2. North of Seattle, WA, USA there is a flower region for tulips.  The harvest season which was stable for many many years was the month of May.  The warming in that area has now moved the harvest of tulips to the month of April.  Some of the flowers in India are failing to have any flowers.  The 4th article talks about india's troubles with that.

    3. Polar Bears in the Arctic Circle are being stranded on melting ice and some are dying and it will have to be placed on the endangered species list.  This is also changing the tundra zones in Northern Canada and you can google how that effects birds and other animals. The 5th article deals with that....

    4. At the first link below, there is a chart showing CO2 concentration in Hawaii. It is real and it is not bollux.  Human activities like the burning of fossil fuels, conversion of natural prairie to farmland, and deforestation have caused the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. From the early 1700s, carbon dioxide has increased from 280 parts per million to 380 parts per million in 2005. Many scientists believe that higher concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will enhance the greenhouse effect making the planet warmer. Scientists believe we are already experiencing global warming due to an enhancement of the greenhouse effect. Most computer climate models suggest that the globe will warm up by 1.5 - 4.5° Celsius if carbon dioxide reaches the predicted level of 600 parts per million by the year 2050.

Please do not buy a gas guzzling car, take the bus more or rapit transit, and insulate your homes well to use less energy for heat.  There are many things you can do to help reverse the trend.  Take for example the hole (actually it was thinning to dangerous levels) in the ozone.  The hole was growing and many many corporations banded together and stopped CFC production in styrofoam. That was not bollux either.  Governments helped corporations by not buying the CFC styrofoam at the same time and they worked together to solve the crisis. Now the thinning will be repaired by 2050 because of the help from every walk of life.  If we can do it then, we can do it again.  The second link talks about the ozone.

  5. Of course it isn't.

It's rather strange, the way so many people on here manage to come up with totally outrageous alternate explanations, most of which are not supported by a scrap of evidence, and people will go along with them; but as for what the planet's leading scientists have decided, after years of examining evidence, oh no that's obviously a load of rubbish and is just scare-mongering. Yes, it seems like alarmism, because it IS alarmism--we NEED to be alarmed!

  6. When you do your research, you can't deny the correlation of human activities with the demise of our planets resources (trees. plants, etc) and global warming.  The planet has gone through temperature fluctuation all throughout its history, but those fluctuations have always followed a pattern, the last century has seen a break in the pattern, and temperature, greenhouse gases, natural disasters are steadily on the rise.  We can either ignore it, and it probably won't really affect our generation as much, but our future generations are going to be paying for it.  Then they'll be asking: "How stupid were they back then?"

  7. no... its happening but although i believe that carbon emmissions are causing a greenhouse effect, technically, there isnt one solid reason. thats where the argument comes in. YES the earth is warming, but what is causing it. is it just happening or is it human activity? research it more

  8. It's the biggest load of bull schitt ever dumped on the public since the denial of the holocaust and bill clinton's presiduncy!

It's a paranoid delusion caused by the Chicken Little Syndrome and man did nothing to cause it and can do nothing to stop, change, or 'fix' nature.

  9. I believe it's yet another money-making scam, one I don't fall for. Pity they can't wipe out sceince from Pre-Thatcher, that way more people would fall for this nonsense.

Boomer, the effect  of another spot on Jupiter on is is....zero.

  10. Anybody read their Bible anymore? It says this would happen.

    Matt 24:7 & 8  Luke 21: 11 & Luke 21: 25-28 & Revelation 8:5-13

The sun is about to or has already started going through a strange phase of which we had nothing to do with.  These things have been prophesied since way before people used machines or motors you know like while they were still walking.  Yes the earth does go through phases but those phases are changing more rapidly however if we use our bicycles instead of driving our car the only change that that will make will be to get there slower.

So called Global Warming is a hoax to line the pockets of certain people who are taking advantage of these earth changes to make some money. By trying to scare the public and taxing us for using petrolum based fuels, etc...

The earth is going to be going through changes, the weather will become erradic ( snow in April on Easter weekend in the Dallas Fort Worth area is not common)but neither is the fact that earthquakes and Tsunames are increasing not only number but in intensity, along with volcanos and other major natural disasters like Hurricanes and Tornados. Droughts and Famins and Biblical porportioned pestilance.  These things will increase as the time nears for the Lords return. Give your heart to Him and your fear of these things will dissappear.

  11. No. It is supported by scientific observations and data from all over the world. Read the IPCC report, or any of the numerous peer-reviewed scientific journals on the subject. These aren't just from the US, they come from from every corner of the globe.

The latest round of research firmly points in the direction of anthropogenic causes (i.e. human induced).

The people here who discredit global climate change do not have degrees in the field. They do not do research in the field. In fact, most of them do not understand the basic physics (let alone the advanced atmospheric physics) that go into the climatological models. In other words, this would be like going to a car mechanic for a CAT scan or a heart bybass.

My advice to you would be to do your own research. Use only sources that have been peer-reviewed by the scientific community. Many people on here quote sources that either have no scientific backing or has been widely discredited.

Download NASA's climate modeller and play with it for awhile.

So you can either listen to the people who have no idea what they are talking about, or you can listen to the experts. Your choice.

Either way, no matter how much people want to deny it, it is happening. We should be doing something about it, or at least preparing for the consequences.

    ~X~

  12. Actually the new term is climate change, but what ever label you give it our tiny contribution to it is not very significant when you compare it to the major cause. Our own moon is the major contributor to the climate change. It is a fact that the moon controls the tilt of the earth about 23 degrees. It is also a fact that the moon is getting farther away from us. The farther away the moon gets the more the earth will wobble and tilt and the more our climate will change. Mars is a prime example of this since it doesn't have a large moon to control its wobbling the climate is chaotic to say the least.

While I have no doubts that we might be at least partially to blame, I don't believe for one instant that we can do anything to stop or reverse it.

  13. It is one of the biggest scams I've ever witnessed. Al is making tons of $$$, and the whole world is in a panic. Do we need another 'fear'?

Not saying it is not getting warmer in some areas of the world, but it is cycles; happened before and will happen again.

The good that might come from this  is that we will finally go to alternative fuels and get out of the middle east.

  14. No.  And you don't seem to think so either, it would seem.  Natural or human-made, either way, the earth is warming.  (And in some places, cooling.)

At least it will give people some incentive to get off their lazy butts and actually use these pointless appendages otherwise known as legs.  I was beginning to think that the fad of the future was going to be amputation at birth.  Walk?  Huh?  Who does that anymore?

  15. there is a lot of evidence of man made climate change .and there are many reasons to hide the truth

scientists who work for politicians ,get paid by these politicians and they have downplayed the facts because solutions are expensive and means change and change effects many peoples incomes, and upsets profit margins,so most of the world is kept in the dark of the real things that are going on.for political and economic reasons

Global warming is a very complex collection of many effects

this text only covers some aspects of global warming ,mainly agriculture i.e.effects of deforestation and subsequent man made desertification

water and air polution such as caused by

industrial contamination ,the contaminating effects of the cities(the internal combustion engine) ,are other stories,

and all of these are also man made ,such as the high industrial chimneys pumping contamination into the clouds and the burning of tires, some of this polution has been found in the ice in the polar regions

there are natural cycles in the planets life

but a lot is influenced by mans existance ,and this is increasing with overpopulation, putting strains on Natural resources and increasing contaminations as well as destructions of essential componants the ensure living conditions for all life forms

climate change is caused in great parts by desertification ,and most desertification is caused by man

the thinner ozone layer helps to speed this up.and this is caused mainly by air polution ,also as a result of mans actions

    DEFORESTATION

    in the past

the Building of the Spanish Armada deforrested Spain

the Phoenician trading fleet turned Lebanon in a dessert

Ganges Khan put everything to the sword and torch, then filled the wells with sand,

the sun finished of the job and whole countries turned to wastelands.

    Today ,

Slash and burn destroys the protective vegetation (which helps to form the soil ),

leaving it open to the Sun ,and then ,wind and, water erosion.

The Plough turns the soil ,killing micro-biotic life (essential to soil building) and accelerates the drying out .

Pressures of the :vehicles, cattle and rain impact brings the salt to the surface.

Mono cultures ,aided by chemicals Exhaust and pollutes the soil .

Adding to this the effects of overgrazing has resulted in large scale desertification.

and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,Farmers

    are overpumping deep carbon aquifiers

and plowing more and more unstable lands going into the jungles and onto mountain slopes

expanding populations and expanding farming ,that has to keep pace with the expanding populations are very strong forces that encroach upon the rainforest's

clearing them for farming and settlement areas .

Rainforest's always are in third world countries and always in third world countries corruption and the need for money s highest

in North Africa,India,Mexico ,millions of people are effected by land loss and desertification and some have died as a result

,the Sahara is growing by 7 kilometers a year

and most of the desserts we know are a results of mans actions ,and they are increasing ,not getting less ,in the dinosaurs days ,there were no desserts.

collectively this planet is drying up ,

each degree rise in temperature means 10%crop loss

and there is less and less water (because of deforestation),to irrigate this production ,

and there are less and less farmers to do it..

Arable lands and their farms are lost all over the globe. Many farmers sons abandon farming and head for the cities.

Northern China is drying up, what once were millions of food producing people, are now hungry refugees ,running for their lives from the all consuming dust storms.

This will have a great effect on world food prices when they start buying at what ever cost, to feed their people.

Africa and Asia are loosing millions of people to AIDS , many of whom were food producers.

The farmers that are left have to feed some 70 million more people than the year before but with less topsoil.

    Over the last half century,

Population growth & rising incomes have tripled world grain demand from 640 million tons to 1,855 million

In the near future the global farming community will not be able to feed every body ,food prices will continue to rise. .

    RISING SEAS

The northpole is melting ,and we will know it without ice in our life times.

this does not affect the sea level because it is ice that is already in the water.but the melting ice from Green land and the south pole ,are another matter

Global warming could be slowed down to some extent, but it will mean global co operation between all countries ,and taking into account human nature and the world politics ,it is unlikely that this will happen,

At least not untill we are all in the middle of planetary disastres and it becomes a battle for the survival of humanity every where, instead of just some third world countries Source(s) here are a 100 ways to help

  16. Well, Personaly, I think that it is kind of over rated. Global warming wont happen for millions of years. Anyways....I thought a volcano killed the dinosaurs. But I could be wrong. I really dont know much about global warming, but if factories and these big polluting companies keep increasing pollution, It could happen sooner than its supposed to.
