i think its total B.S.!!! why would everything enviromentaly friendly cost more??? if these companies really carres about the whole go green thing then why would they charge more for green products??? sounds like a sales gimic to me??? cause reallly...when do american businesses actually want to put the enviroment before sales??? unless enviromentaly safe products boosted those sales of course!!! any imput on that idea???

  1. The question definitely has merit.

    I remain undecided but suspicious.

    Who funds the science?

Who determines which scientific studies are published?

Who owns the media that disseminates the information to the people?

    And what are their interests?

I'm leaning toward the no camp - that is, NO as to human causes.

I believe it may be a tax grab, and my reasons for that belief are outside the scope of your question.

  2. It's not uncommon for companies to profit from fear. It does seem suspicious but Global Warming is real.

  3. I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU! it's total b.s.!!! the government just wants everyone's money! Do you know they want to start a CARBON TAX?

  4. no have you not noticed that it used to be super snowey everywhere in the winter but now its not at all

    my opinion

  5. Global warming is a natural phase of Earth, caused by some Solar Activities by Sun. We human don't have to bother about it. Some of the environmentalist says that this is because of the CO2 we are emitting into the environment, but the reality is that we are just contributing towards 1% to 10% of actual global warming.

If the actual cause of Global Warming is CO2 emitted by the humans then why Global Warming occures on other planets. Just Google for "Global Warming on other planets" and see the results, there are no humans on other planets.

Having too little CO2 in the environment will cause for the plants to die more early, more over it also cools down the temperature on earth.

Having too much CO2 (obiviously, not caused by humans. Mostly generated in the Sea/Oceans) will lead to Green House effect and will lead in increasing the temperature on Earth.

So, the best is to plant more trees so that there would be a balance for the consumption of CO2 on the planet.

I personally think that instead of thinking on this baseless issue try to think on what if Nuclear War broke out in the world, it will destroy Earth more rapidly.

So, next time whenever somebody says you about global warming, just ignore it.

  6. i like milk

  7. umm yaaaaaaaaaaa -.- *knows some people will be annoyed with her for her answer* hehe. I do not believe in it, but I really don't feel like going into a lot of detail about why at the moment.

  8. Global warming is real but it's natural.  The additional carbon that we produce does accelerate the process but the world works in cycles.  Ever read about the Ice Age?  We warmed up after that and we will have an Ice Age again.  There is geological evidence of a world wide drought that lasted hundreds of years and it will happen again.  Eating less cows won't make a huge impact on what the world wants to do.

  9. yup its fake

  10. If you look at the statistics, you'll see that in all actuality the Earth's average temperature is dropping about a half degree per decade. It would make more sense to be concerned about an ice age. As for the "hole in the ozone", think about it. Ozone is created when UV rays mix with oxygen. There is no hole, otherwise you might as well say there are hundreds of holes. Every time something was launched into space it would create another "hole". The ozone is gas. I'd challenge anyone to show me that you can puncture a lasting hole in gas. As for the growing reports of sun related skin cancer, chalk that up to increased awareness. People are paying closer attention to their moles and skin blemishes. I don't buy into the "hole in the ozone" theory, but if it forces out industries to clean up their act...I'm all for that!

  11. Companies are merely trying to meet the demands of a public that has been tricked into beleiving the theory of man made global warming, when in fact the theory is false.

  12. Because conventional is subsidized. Believe it or not, green products pricing is the full price to create the product (of course, depending on the product).

  13. Let me start off by saying we (my family and I) live 100% off of the grid and are completely self-sufficient with a 0% Carbon footprint. I believe this is the first step anyone can make “help the environment”. Once you convert your own life style to a greener more eco friendly route, you can start helping others.

We definitely didn't start global warming, but we definitely do contribute to it now.

Natural gas (or Methane along with other thanes) for example, is completely a natural contributer to global warming and is derived pretty much the same way as oil. ie. Matter (animal, plant etc) decomposes over time resulting in a anaerobic (hope I spelled that right) decay of non-fossil organic material / gas (natural gas or methane).

One problem with global warming is that the concept is so vague in the minds of the people. The critical interpretation is basically how it’s explained in school and the news. However most of the public see global warming connected with the ozone and pollutants which cause harmful greenhouse gasses, etc. therefore investigating and fighting for things like alternative energy (ie. Solar, wind, hydrogen, ethanol, biodiesel, etc)

Greenhouse gases are real and do contribute to global warming. Think of the different gas layers like ozone (o3) that circumference the globe as the clear plastic on a greenhouse. Longer rays of light from the Sun go in and reflect off different thermal masses bouncing back and creating shorter lengths of energy that cannot exist the plastic barrier. These beams then just continue to bounce around inside the green house until they’re finally absorbed completely (some do escape but very few), thereby warming the greenhouse greatly even in cold temperatures.

Basically there are 2 ways that this reaction (or lack of) affects the planet. Global warming and global cooling.

    1. as we add to the gases in the stratosphere, where the ozone layer is (Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc), we add to the plastic of the greenhouse, trapping more short wave length energy and heating the earth more.

    2. as we deplete the ozone (with chlorofluorocarbons or CFCs), we allow more long wave length energy, which bounces back out to space without heating any thermal masses on earth, thereby cooling the planet.

It’s pretty easy to see the results..

    Melting ice sheets & glaciers

    Floods & droughts

    Great hurricanes & cyclones

    Seasonal extremes

    Seasonal phenomena’s

    Species extinction

    New & resurgent diseases

There are many ways to stop both global warming and cooling from accruing or at least slow them down until we can discover a way to reverse it, but Stop burning fossil fuels is the biggest.

I currently own 2 converted h2 vehicles which run on 100% hydrogen and 1 EV (electric vehicle), not to mention our home is completely off the grid, using alternative energy (solar, wind, etc)

  14. No, here is what the balance looks like in terms of scientific evidence, as captured in peer-reviewed papers adn published in major journals, for or against global warming:

"The consensus was quantified in a Science study by Prof. Naomi Oreskes (Dec. 2004) in which she surveyed 928 scientific journal articles that matched the search [global climate change] at the ISI Web of Science. Of these, according to Oreskes, 75% agreed with the consensus view (either implicitly or explicitly), 25% took no stand one way or the other, and none rejected the consensus."

    http://norvig.com/oreskes.html

So how could such a plot be so well executed that none of the scientists worldwide would reveal the "truth", and why do none of them expose the "plot"?  So by your theory all scientists worldwide are receiving enough of a payoff to keep silent?

    That's ridiculous.

The progression in scientific understanding is explained in detail on this site:

    http://www.aip.org/history/climate/co2.h...

Hundreds of thousands of scientists are represented by these scientific organizations, which warn us that global warming real and a serious threat:

NASA’s Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS)

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

    National Academy of Sciences (NAS)

State of the Canadian Cryosphere (SOCC)

    Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

So what evidence is there contradicting the science, or for a hoax (or do you just believe whatever idea pops into your head)?

  15. Ok take a mcdonalds hamburger and a home made hamburger and breakdown the cost when you do you'll see that the homemeade burger costs much more than the processed mass produced mcd's disaster. it's just like that organic and natural made products aren't able to be mass produced yet (at least not effectively) so it costs the producers more to makle the products and you also have to think that stores won't sell blemished tomatos even though nothing is wrong with them so organic suppliers have more products not being sold. there are a lot of factors but hopefully soon the green movement will level out and pick up speed and the products will become more affordable.

  16. Wow, if you can't even SEE the effects of Global Warming, may I suggest you get out of your house and maybe, take a step outside?

Environment friendly products cost more because organic products cost more to make it. So, they have to raise the price because it costs more to make it. Makes sense, right? How old are you? You need to take an economics class.

  17. check the San Fransisco bay area the tide levels have not changed in years

  18. i think global warming is taking place, but i don't think we're to blame.  earth has always had shifting climate. why would the earth go through a sudden ice age, and then into a mostly tropical climate. i think the earth is just going through a period of warming that will be reversed eventually. and even if we are to blame, the earth's ecosystem will get rid of our race eventually.

  19. In my opinion... YES!!!!!!!

Warming and cooling of the earth is a cycle which has and will repeat iself for the history and future of the Earth. We have slightly intensivefied the strength of the heating stage but no we are not the causes of Global Warming. Businesses don't sell green products because there is not a big enough demand for them!! You alwasy see people asking where green products are sold which makes you think that there is a demand, but in actual fact, the people asking are a small p;ercentage of the population. They're only asking because no-one sells products to cater to this small percentage of consumers.

So to capt my theory off, WE DIDN'T cause Global warming, it is a cycle. The only thing we heat up is baked beans to eat =[]...

  20. why even bother to ask

your mind is made up and you will only believe those who agree with you

so it really is a waste ot time even answering this

this question is asked 50 times a day and if you really wanted to know you could have read the thousands of answers that already exist

    but any way

Global warming is but a component, in a group of destructive forces at work such as ;deforestation, desertification, soil and water contamination ,irresponsible or wasteful utilization of bio resources , air pollution,Non sustainable Agriculture, over pumping carbon aquifers

all concepts which are definitely not part of the Natural Processes of the Natural world

    WHICH WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR,

The most prolific growth on this planet is part of the day in the mist and most of the time under clouds ,and the least growth is always directly in the sun .

To exchange the one for the other means changing local climates

We are exchanging Nature with Tar , concrete and open spaced mono cultures.

In 300 years half of the planets forests have gone ,and in the last 50 years half of the wet lands ,and rain forests

These Areas absorb heat during the day and release heat at night ,

Cause cloud formation(shade).humidifying the air on the surface as well as releasing excess water at the roots that keep rivers flowing ,which in turn brings more water into the Environment .

As well as contributing to absorbing carbon emissions as do the leaves of the trees together with the oceans .

All in all many factors which directly affect the local Environment .

The loss of the above resulting in rivers drying up ,less rain ,desertification, loss of habitat for many species and so on.

dryer and hotter surface environments which can manifest in different weather patterns such as tornadoes or bush fires

I may be stupid or Naive but somehow i believe that lots of these local environmental changes, can add up to affect global weather, If there are enough of them (and there are)

And then on top of that comes the story of the effects of pollutants released into Nature and especially the Air ,by MAN http://earthissues.multiply.com/photos/a...

A cocktail of events and a lot of the ingredients have MAN written all over them

So it is safe to assume that we should look at ourselves ,just a teeny bit ,for possible improvements ,and rectifying Eco errors that are with in our powers.

  21. I am sitting here in VA on Monday april 14 and it is snowing,  you tell me how real the 'warming' is.

  22. There are many climatologists (the founder of the weather channel is one of them) and scientists who would say there is no basis for the 'global warming' scare. I think you should research this topic carefully and review both sides of the question before you jump on the 'inconvenient truth' bandwagon.  I know that in my part of the world there has been extremely cold temperatures this year and we would welcome a little 'global warming'...but see no effects to substantiate the 'global warming' claims.

  23. This makes no sense.  Scientists don't make the products or sell them.  They do research.  What the marketing departments of companies choose to do to take advantage of people wanting to help the enviroment has NOTHING to do with the scientists.

This is like saying lead poisoning isn't real, because lead-free paint is more expensive (in countries where they are both sold.)

What corporations decide to charge has nothing to do with the climate.  Scientists aren't seeing the money from the companies.

  24. IS Global Warming happenning? Yes, the globe's average temperature is increasing. What is the cause of it seems to be the real issue here. So far, the bandwagon says it's man's fault, but global warming has happened before; it's a natural part of the Earth's cycle. How much of the current warming trends is because of us as a species? Who knows. It is likely accelerated somewhat by us, but it doesn't mean it would not have happened anyways.

Are some people profitting on the fear mongering? Definitely. It's human nature to try to make as much as you can from it.

  25. the demand for organic food is not a large as the demand for cheap processed foods. therefore the price is larger.

The more people that go organic, the cheaper the prices will be. Organic milk has been going down in cost recently due the fact that the demand grew.

The same goes for green products. Some are useless. But usually good judgement can give you a good hint on what not to buy.

  26. well.. global warming is REAL!  the only reaosn things cost more is because the companies no people will buy them so they want to make as much money as possible.  but its all with good intentions (hopefully).

    go green!

  27. no.

things (as in cloths should goods etc) environmentally friendly cost more because they require more energy to make. for example growing cotton uses large amounts of pestersides but growing cotton without them results in lower yields. so buying pesterside free cotton is more expensive.

but most of the stuff related to global warming will actually save you money. those fluro lights save you 20 dollars a peice. solar hot water can wipe up to half off your power bill (depending on where you live). insulation also saves on heating costs as well as cooling costs.

but eaven though it costs more to make "green" products most of the things you buy in stores are not relay that good for the enviroment and it is just beong used as a gimic.

edit the earth has warmed since 98. 05 was actually hotter but that dose not matter because there are many short cycles which alter global temps. to remove this noise you need to take the average over a few years normally 10 and this average is increasing.

  28. Its a fake go outside doesnt feel colder than normal for the last month we have been 10-20 degrees BELOW normal

  29. It is a secret plot by tree huggers. To make the country energy independent leading to no need to fight wars to get oil, Clean our air, Clean our water and make us all healthier and happier.

  30. Hi. I am a recently retired research physicist. I have to say that man-made Global Warming is, in fact, a hoax. There are other cause climate warming and cooling. It is cyclical. There are some cycles that occur over about 1500 years and within these are smaller cycles. In the beginning of the 1990s, we were still in a warming trend. The warming peaked in 1998. Since then, we have "plateau-ed" with a very slight reduction in average global temperature. This past year, we have begun to experience a global cooling tend that is likely to continue until around the year 2040. This cooling trend has its origins in the Sun. In February of this year, one of the university scientists noted that there is very little sunspot activity. This was verified later by several other universities.

The hoax and hype about global warming has its roots in misconceptions, misinterpretation of data and out-and-out lies. First, the hysteria is based upon the false notion that Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a major greenhouse gas causing global warming. This is simply not true. Yes, it is a greenhouse gas, but only a minor one. The major greenhouse gas here on Earth is H2O, more commonly known as water. If you look at the warming/cooling data over thousands of years, you will see that first warming occurs...then, after a lag in time...then there is a rise in the CO2 levels. That is because it takes time for CO2 to be released from the oceans, the major storage area for CO2 on Earth. Rather than causing global warming by increased CO2 levels, it is the other way around. Global warming causes increased levels of CO2.

The most major influence of warming/cooling on Earth is the Sun. Other major contributors to shaping the climate is the world's oceans, the amount and type of cloud cover in the atmosphere, the jet streams, volcanic activity (...which can put lots of dust in the atmosphere and cause global cooling...), emissions of methane from algae and other biological organisms...the list is pretty extensive.

Many of the scientists who initially were concerned that man was responsible for global warming have now backed off from making that assertion. It should be noted that historians probably should have picked up on the made-man Global Warming hoax many years ago. After all, it is historical fact that the Earth was warmer in 900 AD than it is now. When the Vikings first colonized Greenland, they called it 'Greenland' for a reason. They practiced farming and herding for a couple of hundred years until the climate turned cooler and Greenland could no longer support their agricultural efforts. The Viking colonists moved away. The time period 1350 to 1850 is known as the "little Ice Age". You can get lots of information about this from the History Channel or look on line for library sources.

About the only scientists that continue to support the man-made global warming hoax today are those who are on Al Gore's payroll or who have a vested interest in getting money from/for Global Warming. Unfortunately, the politicians are now involved. Their lobbyist buddies like Al Gore and others are making sure that the politicians from both political parties will get some $$$ reward for passing legislation like the EU did...to put a cap on CO2 emissions ostensibly. The real reason is that they can "tax" you with a carbon credit tax...money that goes direct to Al Gore & friends...some of which ends up in the coffers of members of Congress. Congress doesn't seem to care about us, the American people. They seem to more concerned about getting their money and they seem to willing to cripple the American economy in order to get it. They have created environmental laws that have prevented us from drilling for oil off of the Florida coast...while the Chinese and Cubans are busy drilling for oil just 45 miles off the coast, almost within sight of Key West.

Now, boys and girls...let's connect the dots. In the late 1990s, the Chinese govt was caught trying to give money to the Democratic National Committee and to Bill Clinton. Since that time, McCain-Fiengold has made it more difficult to follow the money trail...so, instead we can follow the benefits trail. Who benefits from the environmental laws enacted by the Federal govt? Well, let's look. We Americans are not allowed to drill for oil in ANWR or off the Florida coast, but China can. In Ohio because of environmental laws, paper mills have been forced out of business...they moved to China...where they can pollute the air over there. We haven't stopped pollution at all. We simply transferred jobs from the US over to China.

We used to export grain. The US was the leading exportor of wheat in the world. Last year was the first year in my lifetime that we had to import wheat. Why? Because we are taking our wheat and our corn and converting it to Ethanol. Why? Because we are not allowed to drill for oil or build new oil refineries. So, we take our food and convert it into Ethanol. This drives up the price of food because it decreases the amount of food available for your dinner table. It also has led to food riots, food price protests and to some people starving in very poor countries. All because some fat cats in DC and their buddies want more for themselves.

Yes friends, this is our Congress at work. The best Congress that money can buy.

Now, you might be thinking that I am "over-the-top" on this. I am not. Go look it up for yourself. Go look up the information on the internet...the Chinese money going to Congress...the increase in fuel prices because of our not producing our own oil and refining it...the increase in food prices...the food rationing that Pakistan has now had to return to because of food shortages...the poor in Haiti who can't buy enough food...the food price controls that Russia and China have had to implement...the food problems in Egypt, Indonesia and elsewhere. Go look it up for yourself. Don't take my word for it. Look it up and connect the dots, boys and girls. You'll find out pretty quickly the economic havoc that the man-made Global Warming people have caused. And the bad news is...it has only just begun. It is going to get worse as Al Gore and his friends try to get environmental laws that hurt our country...and other countries. We have a Federal Reserve that is shoveling money as fast as it can into the US economy and that will be felt as inflation in about 1 1/2 to 2 years hence. We, of course, are already seeing inflation at the gas pump and inflation at the local grocery store. With inflation, fuel prices increasing and food prices increasing, we will return to the bad old days of high unemployment, double digit inflation, and a high misery index...the circumstances that we lived under during the Jimmy Carter years. Yes freinds, we are looking at going into a great depression. It was all avoidable. Congress didn't have to create it. We had a good economy in 2003 and 2004. By those wonderful people in Congress passed an Energy bill in 2007 that is going to force us into economic depression.

Connect the dots, boys and girls.

Oh, by the way. I almost forgot. The people who make those mercury-carrying, energy efficient lightbulbs couldn't compete in the marketplace against the tungsten filament light bulb. Their bulbs cost too much. So, they sent their lobbyists to Washington DC to ask Congress to pass a law outlawing their competition. Congress, being the best legislature that money can buy, passed a law that outlaws the tungsten filament light bulb by the year 2012. Why compete in the marketplace when you can simply get your buddies in Congress to outlaw the competition?

There is a way out of this mess. But I won't bore you with the details. You have enough homework do now, what with looking up all of this stuff on the net. Have fun boys and girls. I know that our members of Congress will have a great time with their newly acquired money, even if it was ill-gotten.
