Question:

Is Global Warming like Alcoholism?

Do you need to take the 12 step journey to cure yourself of global warming?

First you have to accept you have a problem, as you can't reduce, reuse, or recycle until you do.

Second you have to submit to a higher power, which would be the democrat party and government.

Third you have to make amends to all of those you offended over the years by ratifying the Kyoto treaty.

And so on....

  1. Nice try!

  2. If only it were that easy and accepted as a fact...Not many get past the admitting there is a problem part ...

  3. ...more like a religion for the godless

  4. It shouldn't matter if our wasteful ways cause global warming or not. Being wasteful and careless still has other detrimental environmental impacts. We should all still take steps, however small they may be, to stop or reverse the effects we've all had on the environment, whether global warming is one of the effects or not. This is for all of you who refuse to  believe in global warming.

  5. Um, the second step is to believe that a power greater than yourself could restore you to sanity.  Also, actually the Third step in AA is to make a decision to turn your will and your life over to the care of God as you understand him.  So if you are trying make an analogy that the Democratic party is like God you got it across.

Making amends though, is the 9th step in the 12 steps.

Very funny though, I have to admit.

  6. I think you are onto something here, since everyone who believes in Anthropogenic Global Warming want all of us on here who don't believe as they do, to admit to AGW.

  7. This issue has been too politicized to the point that it has become a religion. It becomes a matter of if you don't believe in global warming you are a greedy conservative puppy hater and if you do you are a birkenstock wearing tree hugger liberal.

Is anyone else tired of this?

Well I don't fall exactly into the categories above. I am a Prius driving solar powered, Seventh Generation product loving maniac who is tired of listening to the global warming doctrine!

Does anyone actually look at the data before they spout that the earth is heating up and we are responsible? This is starting to sound again like religious doctrine, when people were labeled as heretics for saying the earth was round or that the earth revolved around the sun and not vice versa.

The earth has been heating and cooling on its own well before we arrived. The earth temperature has been much hotter than it is now on average in times when we were not even around. Global Warming.....it is all in how you want to look at it. Approximately 17-18,000 years ago the last majore ice age occurred and we have been in a process of warming since then or also called and interglacial period.

During this time the temperature is constantly in flux going in cycles of hot and cold as well as periods where C02 built up in the atmosphere in high quantities without our help.

I believe that we are polluting our air and our water and have put hazardous chemicals in ourselves and in our environment and that something needs to be done. I do not believe that we are causing global warming. This issue is clouding our judgement and isn't helping us prepare for a world either warmer or colder. In reality I think that we would survive much longer in a warmer environment rather than a cooler one.

If we were about ready to step into a major cooling phase we would be hard pressed to be able to grow enough food to sustain the population of the planet. Does anyone remember the French Revolution and the "Little Ice Age". We are clouding the issues and are not preparing ways to survive in major deserts or in a shorter growing season, both of which happen in during earth's cooling periods.

For many of you, I am probably considered crazy, but I like to look at the data that comes out and ask questions. When statements come out like "This is the 5th warmest year this century" and it is 2006 doesn't that mean it is also one of the coldest years this century? Does anyone notice that global temperatures peaked in 1998 and have been going down since then. Do you know where some of the temperature gauges are placed? Airports, and some right outside on sun heated pavement slab? Does anyone pay attention? Every time something comes out about all the freak snow storms in the middle east they can call it anomalous and say that it is all part of global warming or now they term it "Climate Change" as they need to get back on the bandwagon to keep the money flowing in.

Should we stop fighting about what temperature it is going to be tomorrow and start researching ways to survive, whichever way the temperature ends up. Personally, I think it is going to be a roller coaster and I am excited to see how the politicians will spin it the next time they find something new to predict doomsday. I am curious when they are all going to switch sides and predict the next ice age as they did in the 1970's.

Please, do some research, look at the data and don't listen to me or anyone else like a lemming.

  8. Pretty good analogy.  I don't think submitting to the government is working though.

  9. I wonder! if they promised us it would be like Hawaii, all over the world all we have to do is allow NAFTA to open all borders and just do away with the constitution. Would people agree to that?

  10. Global Warming is like alcoholism. Halucinations of humans causing climatic change, irrational thinking, and an addition to huge study grants while pencil whipping findings for more study grants. The Earth has survived cyclical ice ages,(in which another will return), volcanic eruptions spewing more greenhouse emmissions than mankind could EVER produce ( Mt.St.Helens alone). In the 1970's man was producing an ice age due to polluntants, then the warm cycle kicked in. My ecology professor said we are ABSOLUTELY causing an ice Age. That was in 1980.

During Christ's times the Earth was much more tropical and another two thousand years prior the last ice age was retreating. The equator ran thru what is now Pennsylvannia as the coal fields were formed from  tropical plants and swamps. Many scientic researchers claim we are creating the opposite of the Greenhouse Phenomenon.Fear equates to money and the extortionist and con artist are raking in.

  11. Considering that 90% of the comments and observations of skeptics on this forum are nothing but badges of ignorance, I think the better analogy for the denialist would be that of a meth addict- someone who never stops talking, pretends to know everything, and have utmost confidence that >95% of everyone else in the know is wrong. Then when they sober up they notice that everything they said was sheer nonsense.

  12. I don't think USA has a political party who interested in saving the planet so where alcoholism is an illness, global warming is caused by sheer greed. We are all guilty to some extent but USA is along with China and Japan one of the most unenviromental countries in the world. The only way to alter this is for someone to front the green view and be so convincing that they carry the rest of the country along with them. Jan

  13. umm, the time I subject to the idiotic democratic party and admit to the existence of global warming is when humans can shoot lasers out from their eyes.

  14. Twelve steps is rather too few.  It is rather like Chairman Mao's long march.  There, I am starting to confirm what you think of me.

  15. Hi, i'm Bill, and I'm a petroholic.

  16. are you a Glenn Beck fan too?

NO, alcoholism is real...global warming is not!

  17. i``m in denial, so i don`t need no 12 step program . I see snow, i see snow. i see sun i feel warm. i see clean air . i breath

  18. Nope.

Global warming "skepticism" is the compulsive behavior.  Knowing it's real, and mostly caused by us is just smart, as evidenced by those who do:

The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Geophysical Union, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Meteorological Association, etc.

As well as most every famous scientist you ever heard of before you started reading about global warming.
