Is Global Warming natural, or just an excuse for moreTAX?

Some highly respected scientists are now questioning our take on Global Warming, and some are going as far to say that governments are using this 'natural' cycle to simply charge ordinary people for more Tax - most of which not spent on preventative measures in the first place. Or, is the threat of Global Warming possibly more serious than some scientists predict, and we should be charged more Tax than we are, even if it's not used to fund projects to reduce Global Warming?

There is a natural cycle of climate change, but human emissions of greenhouse gases are disrupting that cycle and causing anthropogenic climate change.  So, carbon should be taxed.

the problem is its all become political. Look at the al gore propganda film and how much of the truth is distorted. I am not convinced by global warming and there are many scientist that also do not and there are others who conform to political pressure.

Oh, it's real, it's hard to deny.  However, governments are latching on to it as an excuse to tax us more, that's even harder to deny unless you are a government body...

You have a good take on government promises. One volcano going off puts more gas and debris into the atmosphere than all of us togeather. Nature has a way of balancing things. More co2 should increase plant life in the oceans and forests.It used to be said that the air is free. I wonder for how long now.

The shift of tax onto fossil fuels does not imply more tax. But with the amount of debt the USA has built up it is not easy to see how any restructuring of tax would not have to involve some increase in taxation.

I know, Mr Bush has sold us a story that reducing tax rates increases tax revenues. It may be true. But then Mr Bush has been a spend and don't tax president. Only thing is debt accumulated is also a form of tax, deferred tax. Carbon tax might have to be used to pay down that debt, but if not carbon tax, then other forms of taxation, such as an across the board tax on consumption.

Well, no matter how we raise the  tax revenue it will be the fault of whatever government has to tackle that task.

But carbon tax per se will not have been the cause of increased total taxation so much as extravagant spending over the past 8 years.

Fortunately, paying down debt also puts money into the  economy, so it will not stall the economy.

if theres global warming, why is it for the second year running our summer has been c**p, i say its naturl not human fault. think back when dinosars were around they had all sorts of freaky weather. its just the way the world goes, btu sadly over powering GOVERMENT try make money of us any way they can.

For decades, environmentalism has been the Left's best excuse for increasing government control over our actions in ways both large and small. It's for Mother Earth! It's for the children! It's for the whales!

But until now, the doomsday-scenario environmental scares they've trumped up haven't been large enough to give the sinister prize they want most of all: total control of American politics, economic activity, and even individual behavior.

With global warming, however, greenhouse gasbags can argue that auto emissions in Ohio threaten people in Paris, and that only global government can tackle such problems.

National sovereignty? Democracy?

Forget it: global warming has now brought the Left closer to global government, statism, and the eradication of individual rights than it has ever been before.

The point is, many of its advocates don't CARE whether or not it's accurate.    As long as enough people believe in it for long enough to get their agenda passed.

There has not been a single peer-reviewed paper published that contradicts global warming since 1996.  It is happening...no one denies that.  Some people speculate that humans aren't *contributing* to global warming, but they are a very small minority.

It isn't natural. If it was natural the earth would be doing it to itself. As it is something that we are causing it seems only right that we should be paying higher taxes to fix it.



Scientific research has to be funded: I often wonder - Who funds the research being done by those scientist who are questioning the existence of Climate change?? I know for a fact that a couple of major petrol companies have invested heavily in research into climate change and it wouldn't profit for the scientists they commission to report that climate change is real and petrol fumes and pollution is causing it.

As the saying goes: 'Everyone has a price'. It wouldn't suprise me if a lot of these scientists who are now going back on what they originally believed have had a hefty 'gift'  from a company with vested interests in disproving climate change.
