Is God male or female?

Christian and muslim friends may answers this question.

Whe we describe god then we always associate "He" with God. Does it mean that god is male.? Why not a "She"?

We say that God cares, loves, nurtures etc etc. But dont you think that these are the qualities of a female. Both in the Human kingdom as well as in animal kingdom we see that these functions are mainly performed by female.

So the God that you pray is a female or male.?

As far as Hinduism is concerned, the supreme god is neither male nor female but hinduism does recognize a feminine side of GOD.

In hinduism we have both the forms of god in male as well as in female forms. Each male form is God incomplete without the female form.

thats why we say Radha-Krishna, Shiv-Parvati, Vishnu-Laxmi.

I would like to know what other religions have to say on this.

Refer to this picture. The eternal lovers Radha-Krishna (incomplete without each other)

  1. depends what religion you believe in.

  2. He has no s*x, jerk. He is a creator all humans and He also create what we call s*x !!! 'He' you mean is language dominant. Not means that God is good guy

  3. Everyone thinks that god is male, personally I think that's pretty sexist. I'm not religious but I think god should be thought of as neither that way people get over thinking that women are beneath men.

  4.   The Muslims prefer calling the Supreme Creator, Allah, instead of by the English word ‘God’. The Arabic word, ‘Allah’, is pure and unique, unlike the English word ‘God’, which can be played around with.

If you add ‘s’ to the word God, it becomes ‘Gods’, that is the plural of God. Allah is one and singular, there is no plural of Allah. If you add ‘dess’ to the word God, it becomes ‘Goddess’ that is a female God. There is nothing like male Allah or female Allah. Allah has no gender. If you add the word ‘father’ to ‘God’ it becomes ‘God-father’. God-father means someone who is a guardian. There is no word like ‘Allah-Abba’ or ‘Allah-father’. If you add the word ‘mother’ to ‘God’, it becomes ‘God-mother’. There is nothing like ‘Allah-Ammi’, or ‘Allah-mother’ in Islam. Allah is a unique word. If you prefix tin before the word God, it becomes tin-God i.e., fake God. Allah is a unique word, which does not conjure up any mental picture nor can it be played around with. Therefore the Muslims prefer using the Arabic word ‘Allah’ for the Almighty. Sometimes, however, while speaking to the non-Muslims we may have to use the inappropriate word God, for Allah.

  5. Of course, God is a male figure.

We, mankind, were created in his image both males and females.

We are all one species, not two separate forms of life.

In Christianity Jesus was a messenger from God, God in the flesh, and a male.

  6. I think god is a female. Why? I don't know I just do. Though in my religion it is widely believed he is male (I'm catholic).

  7. I believe God to be both/neither.  God has feminine and masculine qualities because God is everything.

  8. I believe in one divine spirit who can manifest as either male (god) or female (goddess). I also believe that the time of the patriarchal religions are coming to an end. People are seeking balance in their spiritual lives and that can only be attained by recognizing the divine feminine. Our physical families are balanced when we have both a mother and a father. The same can be said for the spiritual family relationship. "As Above, So Below"

  9. Male. He must hold the Priesthood.

I also believe we have a Heavenly Mother, but we do not talk about her because it is too sacred. If people talk horribly about God, it would be more horrible in a sense to talk that way about the mother of our spirits.

  10. You pose a very good question. One i've heard many times, and thank you for not being mean spirited in asking the questions or putting anyone's religion down.

In Islam, we don't think of Allah (swt) as a man or woman. God is a not a being, not a human nor anything that can be so simply comprehended. And as for the "He" reference all the time in books and the Quran, "He" is the best English translation so far for the Arabic word. So when God is referred to as a "He" it doesn't mean that God is male, it's just the closest translation of that Arabic pronoun.

  11. God is a pure spirit, but He made us in His own image. That's all I can tell you for I have not seen Him. Yet. God bless you.

  12. Although God is depicted as a Father figure throughout the Bible. I believe that is so human beings can understand his relationship to man. God, as the supreme being in the universe, is far beyond anything as mundane as male or female. God is a being beyond the understanding of man.

  13. God is a spirit. God does not need a s*x.

  14. I believe God is male. Many times in the Bible Jesus says 'My father in Heaven' or uses masucline words to describe him.

Yes, God does care and love but so do a lot oh human males too..

  15. Ive said this a couple times before. God could never be a female because women wouldnt s***w up the world this badly.

  16. I totally agree with Organ Grinder. She said what I was about to say. The Supreme doesn't has genital organs, s*x. It just owns the both qualities and properties of humanity. The active part, the male one and the passive part, the feminine. Yin Yang ;)

  17. God is not male or female.

i like a girl named krishna...man i cant wait to see her. :D

  18. God can be whatever you want him/her to be.

  19. I believe God can be any that you want such as he/she can be either an intersex or transsexual person.

  20. Female, no way a male could have a book of his law that contradictory and complex.

A male god would have had a book like this:

"Don't kill, steal, lie... oh h**l pass me some mead moses."

  21. Islam says that Allah is neither male nor female, but that God is genderless <3

  22. I believe the deity to be female, with a male consort. The deity will appear in any form that is needed, but the reason "God" is depicted as male is because that is how men in the early religions wanted God to be male because they wanted to dominate. Prior to the monotheists, there was a female with male deity and there was balance. Sometimes I think it would be better that way, but I will not force my beliefs on anyone since they are MY beliefs and no one elses.
