I am the first to admit that I am not a very religious person and I question a lot of religious beliefs and statements - especially Christian ones, merely because christianity has almost been forced upon me from a young age - when there are many other religions - which have identical old testament's, but differ after that.

My question is why do people like this guy make this claim - Other religions have a sabbath day on Friday and others on Saturday. My understanding is that a sabath day is meant for rest - I know a lot of Christian runners who treat the sport that they love as their form of rest.

Is playing sport on a Sunday regarded as being sinfull - am I going to h**l because I work in the garden and play sport on Sunday?

  1. I agree with Hennie, but in the end it is each person's own decision

  2. I dont think so. If we look at it from a Sabbath point of view runners run because it is fun for them and not work. Also the Sabbath is technically on Saturday not Sunday. Either way I dont think God would be mad or angry.

  3. My friend you need Jesus... I think you should first work on your heart , I mean work on yourself and stop worrying about rules that limit your existence...

  4. Who gives a monkeys!

  5. No ,I am a Christian and do not see anything wrong with it !

I have to agree with Hennie .

  6. DID God actually SAY that?  Can anyone prove it?  I think that the words in the bible have been twisted so many times that it is free interpretation for all.  Read and understand it as you would any other book.  God would be happy that some humans are still using their legs that were made for running and burning off some excess fat.

All over Europe sports are played on Sunday, also matches and competitions.

  7. Pffft, you're not going anywhere! Sunday is the FIRST day of the week. Saturday is the 7th.

  8. I think that the commandment is " Keep the Sabbath Holy."

work out your eternity from there.

  9. The EARTH is our heaven but we do not know, With rules for us to break; and maybe now we will find out to late what a clever h**l we can make. WHOOPS!  (Billy Sheehan)

  10. And here I thought us Muslims had some hectic beliefs.

Friday is our Sabbath, but we are not prohibited from doing things. Only rule about Friday is that we must not do any sort of business transactions between 12h30 till about 13h30. Business as usual after this.

In Muslim Countries however, Friday is the day off for everyone to do what they please.

  11. You really need to get a life!!

  12. No - more likely God (he or she) will be running in the same Marathon having fun. Staying healthy and enjoying life is one of God's better ideas.

  13. Ag Road Runner I am a Christian and I do not think it is wrong to do any sport on a Sunday, I hope I do not offend any one with my answer as I really do not want to. I think God is in fact at the Comrades Marathon on Sunday helping all those thousands of runners to give their best. Sport can never be sinful, it is a wonderful and healthy way people enjoy life, and I think God is happy to see us enjoy life and use the talents he gave us to the fullest. So go and do the Commrades, and enjoy it, God will not strike you down! :) I anyway would rather die of a heart attack doing the Comrades than sitting in front of the TV drinking a beer.....

  14. This is the only time people of all races run as equals so I am sure GOD is smiling and wish there were more Comrades Marathons in South Africa.

  15. The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

    Mark 2:27:

After the Pharisees criticized Jesus for allowing his disciples to pick some grain on the Sabbath day, Jesus said, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath"

In any event, Sunday is not even the Sabbath as defined in the Torah (ie, Old Testament). It is on a Saturday. The Catholic cult introduced Sunday as a day of worship into the Church.

  16. I would say no. It is ones own choice if you want to or not, neither do I think it is classed as work, it is a pleasurable sport.

We live in a interesting era where most people don't rest on Sunday, I work often on a Sunday. If you do what the Bible tells you, you should not go to church on Sunday as that causes that Priest/Pastor to work.

  17. some people although sincere are sincerely just wrong..they have extreme viewpoints that many religions put on peoples backs like monkeys..if god is portrayed as unreasonable then people turn away from him, thats what religious false teachings do.Why would it be sinful? In fact if you were to have the sabbath day it was the saturday in jewish times, which is where it comes from..but we live in todays world, then.find the truth and it will set you free from ideas that reproach human reasonableness

  18. If there is a G-d do you think he or she would care if runners run on Sunday when there are worse things going on in the world. sheeesh give me a freakin break

  19. That is one crazy Afrikaaner!!!

What do they put in the Holy Water in Cape Town? I want some.

  20. I think He takes the day easy and enjoys the show. He has the perfect point of view....

But seriously I do not think that God has any objection whosoever.

He is not interested in our laws around Religion.

He is interested about our attitude towards Him.

That is after all the message of Christ.

If you run that marathon to His Glory, why should He object at all?
