no but its getting there, its probably baseball or football

Even though it would be great if golf was America's most played sport, I would probably give the edge to Basketball or Baseball.

All I know is that when people get too old to play football/basketball/baseball, they all start playing golf. I can guarantee that in the 50+ age group, golf is the most played sport in America.

Golf is the most played sport in America. There are around 20,000 courses in the country. There are  8 to 9 thousand public courses. These all cater to kids, women, men, seniors of both sexes. Add the numbers and you will find that they far exceed any other sport played in America. You could almost make a bet that the numbers are more than any other three sports combined.
