Is Google ranking based on web activity?

I have no money to advertise yet with Adwords, but will more activity on my website (hits) raise my ranking on Google?

The Google algorithm is very complicated, so I can't be sure but I do not think web activity is a factor. When people link to your site your Google ranking are increased. So, the more legit site that link to you, the higher your ranking.

Google ranking is based on baselinks. If more and more people will links to you. it means you are popular and have high authorities, so you will rank high on Google. You dont even need to advertise your site. Just try to make your site useful and interesting and gain some backlinks. While no one can claim to know exactly how google's algorithm works. It is like Mcdonalds super secret sauce, its a trade secret. SEO, Search Engine Optimization, experts do know quite alot.

You have 2 general areas that affect how well your web page ranks in the SERP's, Search Engine Result Pages. On page content. And off page backlinks.

On page optimizations that you can tweak include using your keywords 2-3 times in your <title> tag and in your meta description tag. The title and description is what users will usually see if and when your page ranks in the Google index. Also having your keywords two or three times near the top of your web page is a good idea. But not in a picture, GoogleBot can't read pics, only words.

Off page is what Google uses ALOT more than on page stuff when they determine which web pages to rank highly. You see Google ranks web sites using whats called Google Page Rank, or PR for short, using a scale of 0 -10. A PR 0 page really sucks and a PR 10 page is a major site like Google or Yahoo. Having incoming links from a major PR 4 or higher site is worth alot more than a PR1 backlink. IF you can pick the words used to link to your site then use your keywords. The more incoming backlinks to your page(s) the better. But don't use the same keywords every time, pick a set of variations on your keywords and rotate among them for best results.

Google most likely monitors when a user clicks a link on Google.com if the user stays on that page a while or quickly comes back for a more relevant link. IF they come back quickly it figures the web page wasn't so good. But if they stay a while then the web pages content was what the user was probably looking for. Makes sense huh?

The best thing you can do to get other quality web sites to link to your site is to have high quality unique contnet. Content is King as they say in the SEO world. You see to get other web sites to link to you you will probably have to link to them in return, this is called a link exchange or a two way link. When you have high quality content you will notice other web sites linking to you without you having to seek out these links. These one way links are by far the most valuable. I have several #1's in Google for years now and know from experience that if you concentrate on these few simple things you will quickly rank in MSN and Yahoo. Google takes more time since they are more about the links. Yahoo and MSN is more about the on page stuff so they are much easier to own. Don't even consider trying to rank for most, if any, 1 word keyword phrases like "cars", "houses", "boats"... You won't have a chance. It would take years of work to maybe have a chance and work your way up the SERP's. Instead go for the long tail keyword phrases, 2-3 or more keyword phrases, that are much easier to rank for. Lets say you are selling foreclosed houses in Las Vegas. Try for "Foreclosed houses las vegas" which would be much easier than just "houses" to rank for, AND it would bring your site much more targeted traffic to fit your needs.

One last thing. While Google and the other search engines are constantly changing their formulas if you concentrate on the things I have outlined, especially having good content for your users, you will stay on top once you get up there. Don't worry about all the constant changes so much.

In part, yes. But there are so many variables its hard to weigh one against the other. The best thing you can do is submit ur site to Google, submit a sitemap, make sure your meta tags are filled out, and then get as many quality websites to LINK to your site-- if you do all that. Your website will rank well eventually.
