  1. Aren't the USA Canada and Mexico all just America really ???

Great Britain is the large island that contains three country's England, Wales and Scotland.

The United Kingdom also includes The Isle Of Mann, The Channel Islands and Northern Ireland.

There is not a good way of describing someone from the UK the way Americans confuse England and Britain has led to the term British being quite offencive if you come from any of the places listed above (Which are all separate country's with separate governments but all under the one Queen). The fact relations between these country's aren't good also adds to the dislike of this term.

The term British can also be offencive because that is commonly used by immigrants who can not claim birth from one country in the UK.

The term British is also used by people belonging to "British territories" (the remains of the British Empire, Hong Kong was the last major territory).

Its kind of like the whole Eskimo Inuit thing.

If  in doubt just use the term UK and then ask what part of the UK the person is from.

No Commonwealth countries are included in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Great Britain is the largest island of the British Isles and is a geographical term.

This island is composed of three nations.

They are England, Scotland and Wales.

The second largest island of the British Isles is called Ireland and part of this island is politically separate from the rest of it and is called Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland is governed by the British Parliament and comes under the jurisdiction of the British crown.

Therefore it forms part of the state known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The rest of the island of Ireland is an independent state known as the Republic of Ireland.
