Is Greenhouse effect and Global Warming the same thing?

Are they the same? What's the different between the two?

The greenhouse effect causes global warming.  They are not the same thing.  The greenhouse effect is the trapping of heat by certain gases in the atmosphere; they let short-wavelength radiation (light, infra-red) pass through, heating objects on the earth, but block the longer wavelength radiation emitted by those warm objects which could remove some of the heat.

As a result, the temperature of the objects on earth increases--this last is global warming.
