No offence to Irish people-it's my fault for being pig-ignorant- but I've heard from somewhere that Guinness is Ireland's most profitable export, and am throwing this dubious question into the swirling maelstrom that is Yahoo answers...

  1. Back in the 1890's, it was the Irish themselves!  That's when my relatives came over.

    I wouldn't doubt for a second that it's Guinness.

When I vacationed there, I remember staying in some small towns and watching the beer trucks pulling up to the pubs early in the morning, gathering the empty kegs and dropping off the full ones.  I was blown away by the sheer number.  It looked like a keg for every person in the town!

  2. doubt it

  3. I've heard this as well, but I doubt it is true. For starters...the majority of the Guinness drank world wide isn't brewed in Ireland anymore.

"But Guinness is serious big business. Operating breweries around the world, it sells 10 million pints in more than 150 countries daily."*

"Guinness Stout is also brewed under licence internationally in several countries, including Nigeria[9] and Indonesia.[10] The unfermented but hopped Guinness wort extract (the essence) is shipped from Dublin and blended with beer brewed locally."**

    "Product of Cananda"***

    That aside...wiki says:

"machinery and equipment, computers, chemicals, pharmaceuticals; live animals, animal products"****
