  1. It's expected that once Gustav is back over open water (before hitting New Orleans) it will gain strength to a category 5 before striking them.

Cat. 5 is the highest level of hurricane. It has sustained winds of over 160 mph.

  2. i heard today on msnbc that hospitals are excavating  people to buses

and the highway is jammed in texas going toward houston excuse me i am not from the south i am from the midwest well anyways cuba got slammed with alot of rain so it could possibly hit texas is what i heard also . the mayor said if anyone does not stay out of the streets they will be a suspect . so pretty serious situtation there hope nobody gets hurt or stuck in the hurricane you'll never know how strong it will be or how weak it will be i guess it 's all up to mother nature !

  3. no but they want to be prepared as the katrina anniversary is coming up, and the dont want a fiasco on their hands again...

why would you live in a city below sea level?? thats just asking to get flooded... im sorry if thats mean, but it is the truth... if you dont like rebuilding or hurricane proofing your house maybe you shouldnt live in an area where that is statistically guaranteed to happen??

    good luck to anyone affected..

  4. It is actually stronger.  It has the potential to become a category 5.  Katrina was a 3 when it made landfall.  The only reason it was so deadly was because of corruption and mismanagement on local, state and federal levels of government.

  5. I live in the UK and visited New Orleans  and MS area earlier this year. I was amazed at how the area  along the coast has been rebuilt but equally amazed to see open spaces where houses once stood ....steps in gardens leading to nowhere, rags still hanging from trees and people still trying to get their lives together. It would be devastating if Gustav hit at an even greater force than Katrina as my fear is that the city of N O will never be rebuilt again. We must all pray for the people in that area.

  6. I say no simply becasue this storm is being handled COMPLETELY different. Bobby Jundal has got things moving right along and people are preparing and evacuating like they should have done 3 years ago. It was the aftermath of Katrina that was bad, not so much the storm itself. Storm surge and flooding rains are the main concern.

*PLEASE understand that there is MORE to Louisiana than New Orleans! All of Louisiana will be directly effected by this storm and honestly, the rest of us are tired of hearing about Katrina and New Orleans.

  7. Not sure dropped to category 4 so i doubt it tho mother nature is to unpredictable

  8. if it hits as a catagory 4 it will be WORSE than Katrina

I talked to a friend and she says the news is lying....the levees will not hold......they are leaking as we speak because they have not been repaired correctly

  9. Gov. Jindal is already saying that the flooding will be worse than Katrina.

  10. much worse than the Kat !

this storm is gonna be a biggie

    ---- class 5 ----- 150 mph winds

and most weahter forcasers say that

gus will be up to @170 mph by landfall

with a storm surge of about 40 feet

and an eye wall about 30 miles ...

  11. it's slowing down so hopefully won't be as bad. Still, people are supposed to evacuate the area.
