  1. Not exactly.

    It stimulates increased testicular production.

Its usually used after or during a cycle of steroids to prevent shutdown and speed recovery of natural production.

If taken without steroids it will temporarily boost production, but not to the point where it would be worth doing.

And besides if you were to take it long enough to actually take advantage of the test boosting effect, it would cause suppression of your natural test production.

And would therefor be counterproductive long term if not running steroids.

Its meant for very specific use.

  2. No.

hCG is used during and after a steroid cycle to retain the size of the testicles (reduce atrophy) and maintain natural testosterone production.  When anabolic steroids (AASs) are introduced into the male body the hypothalamus shuts down gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) which in turn tells the pituitary gland to stop producing luteinizing hormone (LH).  Without LH the testes stop producing testosterone.  This causes the testes to atrophy (shrink).

hCG Pregnyl is used in place of and mimics LH so that the testes continue to produce testosterone.
