my girlfriend keeps saying she wants to walk along it at night, when we visit from New Zealand...is it safe, seeing as though it is far from towns or cities?

  1. it's very long, you couldn't walk the full length of it in a couple of hours !! ... never mind finding your way across moors and so on ... kind of depends which part of it she wants to walk ... the best bits, where you'll see most, are up on top of the moors where you get the full effect of the wind and rain and whatever else the weather chooses to throw at you

and in the pitch darkness what are you going to see?

  2. Well,as it is totally remote and you wouldn't gain access at night, not to mention that there aren't any street lights, I think you might just have a slight bit of difficulty.

Oh I forgot, As it's a listed monument, you can't walk on it either!

  3. It starts in a city and ends in a city :0)

Perfectly safe, you wouldn't exactly be the only ones there, it attracts a lot of tourism, but you can't actually walk on it, it's rather old.

  4. If you walk the most un damaged part of the wall you will find it dangerous and undulating at night.

I wouldn't walk it at night.  Plus it's about 87 miles.

  5. Safe enough but it will be pitch dark and I don't see how you will get there and back at night.

Don't let your girlfriend see the film "American Werewolf in London" :-)

  6. I live near the wall out in the moors and i wouldnt recommend that you walk the wall at night.  It could be quite dangerous along parts of it due to the cliffs etc if something happened no one else would be around to help you.  Go during the day and then you'll see the full beauty of the wall and the surrounding area.  Plus at night the ghosts of old lost roman soilders come out and your girlfriend will be scared.

  7. yes as long as you have torches you should be okay

  8. Hi Vic,

You are more likely to be mauled by a ferocious gnat than anything else. You can walk on, along and beside the wall for miles. It really can be a desolate, cold and isolated place - but in the right weather at the right time it is a beautiful, popular area with masses of people on it. There is a fantastic pub at Haltwhistle but I don't remeber the name - but then there is only a few so try them all. It will take maybe four or five days to do the full length but accommodation may be difficult at this time of year.
