Is Haiti considered to be part of Latin America?

It seems to me it isn't. But I saw it listed as so.

French is a "Latin" language, so to speak.

  1. Latin America just refers to the area in the Americas where romance languages (derived from Latin) are primarily spoken. Languages like Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian. So Haiti would be correctly considered to be a Latin American country.

    English isnt considered to derive from Latin as it is West Germanic


  2. Since it's on the island of Hispaniola, I'm surprised it would be considered ANY part of "America," which is a continent.  

    I always thought of it as a Caribbean island nation.
