Is Haiti safe and clean? I'm considering going there on vacation to see friends and spend time on the beach.

My friends are in Port au Prince, and the beach is in Port de Salut. Port de Salut looks very pretty from slideshows on the Internet. Has anyone been there?

  1. I couldn't agree more with soleil-sol-sun and wd2. All they say about Haiti is B.S. It's a good country, Port Salut is fantastic, you will have  fun there

  2. I lived in Haiti for 2 years back in the early 1980's.  I learned Creole because French is only spoken in the Government offices... but everyone speaks Creole... if all you can use is French, they won't understand a word.

Port au Prince is OK during the day, but I wouldn't go downtown near the post office at night.  And there are parts of P-au-P that I wouldn't go into even during day time back then.. and it's much worse now.

Port de Salut is sort of isolated and if you take a TapTap or an Camione there you will be OK.

Just use common sense.. if you go somewhere and get a bad feeling about it.. then get out.

  3. You better be a savvy traveller as it is dangerous. Learn french

  4. I have heard it is very nice, but stay on the main drag, it can be dangerous outside the tourist areas.

  5. I was in port au prince in January with a mission team from our local church. Our Preacher held a revival at the local churches, the people there are beautiful but very poor, the need tourism, have a great trip.

  6. BABE, Port Salut is one of the most beautyful place in Haiti. All the beaches ( the one that are used for leisure) in Haiti are clean.  People will say that it's a dangerous country but there are danger anywhere, you can get shot in Brooklyn ot Baltimore. You just have to make sure that you are in the right place and at  the right moment. Not all part of Haiti have gangs' problems. Even if your friend live in Port au Prince, it maybe possible that she lives in a quiet part of Port au Prince. Port Salut is really beautuyful. I am sure that you will have a good time there and I am happy that you are thinking  about going there. I did live there, I in fact have  family there and go every summer. In regard to "clean", it all depend on what kind of person your friend is. Believe me, when we are hosting foreigners in Haiti, even if it was a member of the family, we make everything nice, repaint the house. You will love the food. Unlike what the idiot above me said, you won't have any problem. We do shower three time  a day but we will understand that it's your culture  if you don't shower that often. You won't need to help us do anywork in the house because  your friends won't let you touch anything. She or He will treat you like a  princess. Don't listen to people's cr@p. They sit there take sh*t from the internet  to give you. None of them have been to Haiti. You won't have problem to communicate, many people speak English adn Spanish as their first language.

  7. It's not doing very well right now.

But if you stay put during the day it's alright. but don't go wondering during the dark.

They speak creole, but they write in French.

Some of them MIGHT speak Spanish.

But for the most part if you do speak french I think they can understand. Don't worry about the voodoo .. that only happened in Trinidad and Tobago...

    The food there is GOOD.

    try tum-tum it's good.

When you speak french make sure you look very clean and dress REALLY nice cause Haitian people tend to talk really bad about people especially if they don't know you.

From some of the videos I've seen people like people that speaks french and dress nice. Do not start ANY BUSINESS OR TROUBLE with any Haitian. STAY CLOSE TO  YOUR FRIEND. If things start to go bad return ASAP.

    Currency= 1USDA= 7Haitain Dollars= 35goods.

Be VERY POLITE THEY LIKE PEOPLE THAT ARE POLITE.

Their is this one thing about Haitians.

    Don't touch their stuff.

    Shower Morning and night.

    Help around the house.

Offer them some of what ever you have.

Do not ever make a mess.

Do not walk into their conversation.

ALL OF THOSE LISTED ABOVE IS WHAT HAITIANS WOULD LIKE AT AND JUDGE YOU.

THEY WON'T LIKE YOU EITHER FOR THOSE REASONS.

    TRY THE FOOD ESPECIAL .

OH, and they have really good products.

They are as good as the Cubans with med.

  8. I've never been there but I've heard that it not as clean and safe as other islands.

  9. To dangerous.

  10. i've lived in haiti for 14 years and walked n every corner of port-au-prince, walked to school everyday, not a thing happened to me. I love my country and as soon as i have enough money saved, im going back there to live. Everything u hear in the news is political, if u mind ur own business while u there u will be fine. And there are some beautiful places in haiti, have someone to take u around.
