Question:

Is Hamilton's Silverstone win the greatest ever?

Every race Hamilton wins sets new standards in F1. In my view each Hamilton race win has been the most skillful of any F1 driver in history. You cannot compare the old relics like the overrated arrogant Senna, or that smug lifeless automaton Schumacher to Hamilton. Charismatic Lewis is redefining what it means to be a racer, and with each race win he sets a new benchmark for other drivers past and present to be judged against as he demonstrated in the wet last Sunday by winning with over a minute to spare. Lewis Hamilton is simply the most naturally talented racer F1 has ever seen. And to all the Hamilton haters out there - no, I'm not being sarcastic or joking. It's the truth: this kid is going to rewrite the F1 history books so get used to it. Makes you proud once again to be British.

  1. After Canada 2008, English magazines called Hamilton "silly boy" and told that he had to retry the driving test. Now, after Silverstone 2008, you exalt him? Why aren't you coherent?

  2. Yes, absolutely. Beats the h**l out of Fangio at the Nürburgring in 1957 or Senna at Donnington in 1993. And he did it without the best car, without getting lucky with the weather and with the whole of the media ganging up on him...

  3. You must be on something. To say Hamilton is the greatest is RIDICULOUS. You are just some biased brit who is full of himself.

Also, DON'T DISRESPECT SENNA you jerk. He was the man and should be respected.

  4. Hamilton's win at Silverstone isn't the greatest win ever for one simple reason. I don't think it was even Hamilton's finest performance to date. Last year at Fuji was, in my opinion, Hamilton's strongest race to date and a well earned victory. The thing is though, Hamilton does have a lot of off days and he seems to have them while driving the best equipment.  To compare him to other drivers from the past who have records which not only show their speed but their remarkable consistency and especially in cars which at times were extraordinarily inferior then to try to rank Hamilton as even their equal, let alone their superior, is just plain ridiculous.

Hamilton is no better then anyone else in the grid in the dry, but his wet weather performances have improved significantly sine his nightmare at the Nurburgring last year. In fact, all of his best drives have been in the wet since then.

Hamilton is good, but not great. To say that he's charismatic is a bit odd though. I've always found him to be a bit dull. In fact, the only thing he's done recently which made me smile or actually like him was when he dismissed Kimi right after crashing into him........then he went and admitted it was his fault.....boring.

Looking at the way he can blow hot and cold over a season I'll be honest and say that he'll be lucky if he wins more than 2 world championships.

  5. NO ! You have got to be REALISTIC & base the WINS of  WHOEVER won WHAT F1 Race in the PERIOD in which they WON that PARTICULAR Race & set it against ALL the OTHER F1 Racing Drivers that they were racing AGAINST at that PARTICULAR time !

  6. what age are you? 10 ?? hamilton is good but a shumi or senna ?? sorry but not even close ..shumi has 91 wins and 7 titles from f1,how can he be over rated??? and even hamilton would tell you that your nuts with your silly opinions ..grow up kid

  7. I thought it was a fantastic win and very apt considering it was the British GP. A wonderful treat considering we haven't had a British winner in nearly a decade (the last one was Coulthard, who was out of the race this year).

My favourite Hamilton win so far was Monaco, because he had to fight really hard for it in the conditions and I love the Monaco track. However the British win was won by pure skill and control from Hamilton. Top form.

I loved Senna though and to be fair, if he was arrogant, he had every right to be - he was an amazing driver and I'm really happy that Hamilton has studied him and wants to be like him :)

To all the Hamilton bashers here, is there really any point posting if your comments don't even answer the question? "Lewis sucks" isn't really a response to "Was this the greatest win".

  8. It was an uplifting win compared to his past failures in the rain(non rain even) but gosh.  DId you take your meds today?

  9. My my, I was under the impression that Mosley's recent voting win was the greatest ever!

  10. I saw F1 on the Spanish screen and I must say, a real

    sensation.

Hamlet's professional skill  make a world ace out of him.

    Congratulations Britain!

  11. you must be eating cookies I have never tasted before....

    give me some!

    Cookies!

  12. I would wholeheartedly second every sentence you've just written. He will be the greatest Formula 1 driver in a few years and everyone will see it. He has a style and one of the most down to earth drivers in Formula 1. He's got definitely something different and makes us so proud because he's British. :) That Silverstone victory should be a prof that he is the best among the current drivers. I just believe he will win this year's championship and then hopefully the haters will SHUT UP. :)

  13. Hamilton is no better than Eddie Irvine. He is nowhere near Schumacher, Senna, Fangio, Moss, Ascari standards and never will be.

  14. obviously! on home turf! comon hamilton!

  15. It was a good race, and a good win

LH  has plenty of time to prove himself

He does have a good car under him and a good team

If he did the same in a Honda.....  then he WILL be rewriting the history of F1

  16. Perhaps it is his greatest win, but here are some comments about your other sentiments.

He moved to Switzerland for gods sake! You should be asking is Hamilton even proud to be British, he says he moved to escape all the fans who he asked to support him in the British GP, even if his true intention was to escape taxes. That is plain disrespectful.

Every race that he wins does not set 'new standards.' That is just a fact.

He currently only holds one record outright and that is "Highest average points per race entered" and that is incredibly likely to fall. He quite literally cannot 'rewrite the F1 history books' unless he wakes up younger tomorrow.

And lastly, HE IS NOT A NATURAL TALENT! HE HAS BEEN SPOON-FED BY MCLAREN, NURTURED SINCE THE AGE OF 14.

And the saddest thing about your question, is that you are just going to pick somebody who agrees with you, because you have the attitude of a very small child, and need to grow up and realise that the world does not revolve around Hamilton, or anybody else.

P.S Who are you say that about Senna or even Schumacher! If Lewis Hamilton is so great, why the h**l didn't he win the WDC last year, and Hamilton, who you idolise so, holds great respect for Senna so why are you insulting him?

  17. Okay, let's get this out of the way first: Hamilton is a very good racing driver and his win at Silverstone was fantastic, I'm not disputing that.

However, you are saying that Hamilton's drive was not only the best ever, but that he is the best F1 driver ever. Both these claims are ridiculous!

Hamilton is a very fast driver, but he is still prone to mistakes, as seen in the 2 races before Silverstone (it's amazing how short people's memories are, isn't it?). Secondly, Hamilton has always had the luxury or having either the fastest car or a car that's at least very nearly the fastest. Obviously this is not his fault, just something to point out.

As for his drive being the best ever, remember that Raikkonen was homing him in just before the 1st pit stops. To me Schumacher had at least half a dozen races that were superior (Spain '96? Hungry '98? Monaco '97?). I'm not really old enough to remember the likes of Senna, Prost etc. but I'm sure there are many other drivers that have delivered drives at least as good as Hamilton's.

You are clearly either biased or simply haven't been watching F1 for very long. Hamilton is one of the top drivers of today and will probably go on to win a couple of championships at least, but I wouldn't put him up there in the all time greats...yet.

  18. Hamilton isn't nor greatest driver from United Kingdom, Consequently He also isn't greatest driver of all time.

  19. Though he has looked impressive in wet races he's driven it's a bit ott to call sunday's performance the best ever, it was a great performance but there are so many other great drives out there, what about Rubens for example, that Honda is absolute rubbish and he managed a great podium spot.

Even as a fan of Lewis I think he's going to find it very tough breaking any of Schumi's records because of the amount of greta drivers about, there's Kimi, Massa, Alonso, Vettel, Webber and even Button all quite capable of winning championship plus of course next year's rule changes with KERS etc no one can predict which teams will be good and will be bad.

  20. Totally agree with ya

  21. Good win for the kid!!

  22. It was another fabulous drive in the rain for LH.  A couple of dozen like that (wet or not) and he'll be well on his way to the record books - - but not yet - not anywhere close, yet.  I agree that Senna (and Schumacher) had some pretty low moments from an ethical perspective and they were both remarkably arrogant but they also proved themselves over multiple seasons.  And each showed some real class at times.

  23. Don't want to sound like a Hamilton hater, there are to few British winners on the world stage in any sport out there for that, but get real 1 & 1/2 seasons in one of the best cars out there, with as many silly errors as wins, he may well go on to rewrite the record books but then and only then can he be compared to greats of the sport, all sport moves on but don't forget he used 3 sets of tyres and refuelled 3 times in the past they carried the fuel to complete the race from the start and the same with tyres, would he have finished if that were case now even the commentators were discussing how hard he/the car is on tyres, these arguements can never truly be won, how many world champions is he racing against, you mentioned Senna when he was racing there was Piquet, Lauda, Prost all multiple World Champions and Mansell who should have won more than once, all in cars with alot less technical help than they get now.

  24. A guy wins half a dozen races and gets compared to Senna....

  25. Hamilton win was good but if senna was alive today he would blow Hamilton away dry or wet.

  26. you mentioned it this KID is going to rewrite the history books...

luck maybe on his side but it will take time for this KID(its yours) to become BOY and then a MAN...till then he can enjoy the company of men like Kimi,alonso,fisichella,trulli,barichello... other boys too....well he may be feeling lonely cause der are no kids to play around in the paddock(except him) LOLz

and what do you have to say about him playing with the hi-tech steering wheel controls of that McLaren-Mercedes on the cost of not paying attention to the pit lane red light at canada and trying to fly over kimi on the cost of ruining Kimis and his own race!! and again then blaming FiA for switching that red light on...and then at Magny-cours losing that apex of the corner and telling again that he did it right...and teaching FiA that losing the apex's of the corner is a brilliant driving manoeuvre...donno abt f-1 hitory book(s) bt surely hes tryin to rewrite the f-1 rule books!!!

  27. not greatest. but good win. i think raikkonen win in brazil 2007 to clinch to championship was a great win

  28. Hamiltion's Silverstone win was a great win but he is not one of the greatest drivers ever (He might be one day) but not now

  29. It was HIS greatest win but it won't mean anything if he doesn't go on to grab the title at the end of the year.
