Thermogenics (fat burners) have been worrisome since the whole Fen-Phen discovery and studies demonstrating how Ephedra (ingredient in fat burners) cause heart problems.

Now days Ephedra is a banned substance and as such fat burners no longer contain this ingredient - which usually results in less of a fat-loss effect.

A lot of these pills are not regulated by any governing body as far as I am aware. My advice would probably be to tell your bf to stick with diet/exercise and to leave out the pills. Who knows what effect they could have now or even several years down the line.
