  1. Hi Jason...I would strongly advise against this. Any over the counter flea erradication products such as Hartz has been known to cause seizures, chemical burns or worse yet death.  Please see the following information regarding this: http://www.hartzvictims.org/index.php

  2. While this information on Hartz is compelling, lets face the facts:  a pesticide is a pesticide is a pesticide.  Which pesticide is 'safer' could be an argument with merit...but again, which is 'SAFER' does not mean it couldn't harm your pet.  ALL flea and tick shampoos, sprays, and drops come with warning labels.  Even 'all-natural' remedies, such penny-roil, are deadly if misused.

Best advice I can give you here is consult with your vet.  Use products that he/she endorses.  If cost is an issue ask your vet what over-the-counter product he/she would recommend.  Do your own research and compare ingredients.  You may be surprised.  :)  Sometimes more expensive isn't always better or different at all.

Also, keep this in mind, ferrets love anything fatty, greasy, or oil-like in nature.  Most drops whether they are purchased OTC or at the vet are oil based.  Your ferret will try to l**k it off of itself OR its cage mate(s).  This has happened to me many times.  Is it safe?  Probably not.  Did my ferrets get sick or die?  Luckily for me, no.

    Again.  Talk to your vet.

  3. I'd use baby shampoo, it's better in my opinion. Why don't you just get ferret shampoo? Get them for like ten bucks at a PetSmart. :]
