I really think this down to earth guy has captured the hearts of fight fans, i really think if there was a 200000 capacity arena he would still sell it out on his own in hours. Has anybody else been able to do this, i really dont think so ?

  2. Frank your view of the world is quite small, and your knowledge of boxing history is appallingly limited.

Ali toured Africa in the 1970's- and was followed by tens of thousands of Africans everywhere he went.  The footage of it was amazing.  At one point in the mid 80's Ali was the third most recognizable name on the planet- behind Jesus Christ and The Prophet Mohammad.  In terms of being able to sell tickets- Hatton would never come close to being in the league of Ali.

Also- when it comes to going to sporting events your countrymen are irrational.  Hundreds of thousands cram into football stadiums once or twice a week.  The number of people who attend live sporting events in your country is mind boggling- and when you look at in context- you would soon become disheartened.

The most hated and reviled fighter in the US can produce 2 million PPV buys (Floyd Mayweather) - but Ricky Hatton can't even get a PPV fight fighting in his home country.

It comes down to the preferences of fight fans- and simply because your fighter can create a very large live gate says much more about your countrymen's viewing habits and much less about his popularity.

Within your own country certainly he is popular- but England is not exactly the biggest country in the world nor is it known for a deep talent pool of boxers.

Finally- If you were to go to Mexico to see a fight you would soon realize that ol' Ricky Hatton can easily be rivaled if not beaten in his ability to produce a live gate.

    EDIT:

It is hard to follow your rant- but I will say this- JCC sold out a 100,000 seat arena in Mexico.  something Hatton has never done.

I never said there are no PPV fights in your cess pool of a country- the point I was making is there are NO fighters - not even Hatton- who come close to the PPV buys that PBF generates- or even come close to what Tyson used to generate.

Finally, I am certain that the Canadians would be thrilled to know that Canada is part of the US.

As far as my world view- if you would bother to look at my answers- which I do not hide you would soon realize I am NOT in the US.

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION - Chavez sr. sold out a 130,000 seat stadium- MORE THAN TWICE anything Hatton has EVER sold.

Outside of England, Hatton is only known as the guy that PBF destroyed.  It is free to follow someone in the street- I saw no such following of Hatton when he left the UK.  Outside the US throngs of people followed Ali.  Understand?

The largest live gate ever produced was over 17 million USD by Mayweather-ODLH.  The closest Hatton got to that was his fight against Mayweather.  Ticket prices are higher in the US and fewer people go and instead tune in on PPV.  Understand?  The cost of the ticket has a lot to do with the ability to fill a seat.

  3. he is one of the most popular fighters in the world today (along with Pacquaio and De La Hoya). People in the UK support boxing much more because they don't have as many stars to rally around.

In terms of the biggest ticket seller of all time, itd be julio cesar chavez. Chavez put 132,247 fans in seats for his fight with greg haugen and i belive 60k+ vs whitaker

  4. do you have any idea how much the average ticket sold?

yeah, it's 15 bucks per tix so even if it's a 200,000 capacity arena as you thought, it would be a sell-out!

  5. your retarded

  6. no way man, DE LA HOYA  is better on that, just see how much money they make on ppv just because of him.

  7. de la hoya my friend , eveyrone who fihgts him makes good money he is the golden ticket

and oh yea julio cesar chavez sold the most tickets in one event. i think he sold 115,000 in aztec stadium mexico. hatton will nevers sell that much
