I have a two year old baby boy. He loves to take off his diaper and play in his poopy! We have even taped on his diaper at night so he can't take it off in the middle of the night, but he will still reach inside and pull it out and play with it! It is starting to drive me crazy. Is he ready to be potty trained? We have tried but he is terrified of the toilet.

  1. Let him pick out a trainer potty (just a small one that sits on the floor), they have some that play music or pictures show up when it's wet.

Can he speak a few words and follow simple directions? If so, he's ready.

  2. my daughter has been doing that too for the last week---Isnt it super gross? We started to potty train her two days ago when she started do that. My guess is yes he is. Get him a little potty so that hes not so scare and if you have a tiled kitchen put it in there and not in bathroom. My daughter is fine with my big girl potty but we do have a little one as well.

  3. Some kids are just fascinated to learn about something new.  They go through phases, some of them drive you nuts.  Ond of mine did that and I was horrified, of course it was the first one!   Just dress him in something hard to get off (for him, maybe like overalls or something).  About 3 is good for boys.  Pushing them too early just wastes both of your time, no need for trauma.  Especially if he is scared of the potty.  Get a little potty and some stickers.  Let him put a sticker on it if he tries to use it.  He'll come around when he's ready.

  4. go to the store and let him pick out his own potty, the smaller ones are less intimidating. also, try to teach him that p**p is dirty and should not be played with...that is why he needs the potty, so he can flush it down :)

  5. Did you try using one of those little kid toilets that sit on the floor? try that first instead of putting the small seat on the big toilet. I think they say boys are a bit slower then girls fir potty training but I think your suppose to start boys at about 2 years and girls just before 2 years of age.

  6. First buy some pajamas that he can't get out of so he can't get to his diaper. Like the zip up onsies with the zipper cover.

If your child is terrified of the potty you're going to have to work him up to not being terrified of that before you try to get him to pee in it.  What worked for one of my brothers (I have 8) is we would have potty towel.  Yes, I know that sounds gross, but he liked to pee on something so we'd set a towel down on the floor outside the bath room door and he would crack up peeing on it.  We had a mirror there and he loved watching himself.  The key is to get them realize when they have to go.

Eventually we moved him to the potty,  by showing him he could shoot at cheerios at bullseyes (drawn on toilet paper).  Once he could pee in the potty it took a little hwile to get him to go poopy.

He's only 2 so I know it's frustrating, but if he isn't ready he isn't ready.  My boy is almost 2 and he did the potty thing for 3 days.  On day 4  he decided he is done with the potty and won't go near it.  No big deal.  As long as he's potty trained by the time he goes to kindergarden it's okay.

Good Luck with the happy naked kid!

  7. Yep, he's ready. Start with a little one that sets on the floor.
