Heavy waters half life is short. It must be being replaced frequently.

    buster... just a small correction - heavy water has deuterium. When tritium is present, it is “tritiated” water.


  2. Heavy water is tritium-bearing.  Tritium is a radioactive isotope.  typically it is not present in primordial volcanic gases.  The presence of tritium in some fumaroles (volcanic vents) is attributed to the in-mixing of surface-derived fluids.

    At least that is the thinking.  The heavy water (from the surface where the hydrogen is irradiated) is constantly ("frequently") being mixed in ("replaced") in small to moderate amounts.
