Is Henry De Bromhead overly dependent on Sizing Europe?
It appears that trainer, Henry De Bromhead, is overly dependent on Sizing Europe to win major events in horseracing. He has won quite a few Grade 1 contests with his talented runner, but he will need to train some young stallions in order to do well with
consistency over a longer period of time.
After starting his career as a professional trainer, De Bromhead had to wait for some time before winning his first major event in the sport in 2008. The victory in the AIG Europe Champion Hurdle (Grade 1) came through Sizing Europe, who is one of the best
runners in the business at the moment.
The talented gelding went onto win the Bord na Mona with Nature Novice Chase next year, which was another Grade 1 encounter. Things kept on moving positively for him year by year and he continued winning some important races for his trainer.
In 2012, the 10-year-old gelding once again made his team proud by winning the Boylesports.com Champion Chase (Grade 1). He was up against some very good runners such as Realt Dubh, but delivered the best in the end.
This victory put a smile on the face of De Bromhead, who said, “The ground was testing enough and they're finishing tired. With Realt Dubh bearing down on us going to the last I was a bit nervous but our lad ground it out in the end.”
The excited trainer further added, “He jumped great and out of that ground he's not going to jump with the same exuberance as he does on better ground but he did the job and I'm delighted.”
Although, these victories have given a lot of respect to the seasoned trainer, yet he needs more of his runners to deliver positive results for him. He has won six Grade 1 events with Sizing Europe whereas only one victory came through An Cathaoir Mor, who
died a couple of years back.
The latter of the above two stallions was also quite talented and had the potential to win more events in this class, but unfortunately for his team, his life was not a long one.
However, De Bromhead is experienced enough to deliver the goods in the future. He would be working with a lot of horses in order to find the right one, who could go onto make a name for him.
