  1. Yes, homeopathy has helped countless people naturally, safely, affordably and permanently heal from depression.

Homeopaths are not counselors, although our listening skills makes a client feel as deeply heard and received. Rather, we tease out "symptoms" in the sharing of your depression, and physical symptoms are part of the treatment. Symptoms to a homeopath go beyond those that people commonly associate with illness. We explore your food cravings, aversions and those that give you problems; the position in which you like to sleep; your weather and temperature preferences; your past and current health history; the history of your family's health, as well as genetic predispositions; life situation events and stresses. Whether the underlying cause of your depression is childhood trauma, bereavement, an injury or accident, related to hormonal transitions - in treating the individual you uniquely are, hope and joy are certain to follow.

I'm a certified professional homeopath with a family practice for more than 25 years. In case you're located in North America, the national directory for certified professional homeopaths is http://www.homeopathicdirectory.com.

    Best wishes.

  2. Clinical depression cannot be cured with a placebo.

  3. Yes , it is.

  4. It depends on the type & cause of depression. If it's due to chemical imbalance then the right homeopathy will work fine. However you should go further & ask what has caused the chemical imbalance.

You really need an accurate diagnosis, as depression is such a generalised term, and a carefully detailed treatment plan as homeopathy is also a general term.

Most treatment plans including homeopathy will also include a variety of other treatments which will work together with the homeopathy to provide an effective remedy. In fact a good homeopath will have started dealing with the depression by simply providing you with a good safe environment to talk about the depression before ever you begin the homeopathic treatment & this can be just as effective a treatment as the homeopathy.

  5. In the same sense that a big fat placebo is

  6. I think the homoeopath uses their skills as a counsellor to help you find the cause of your depression. You should go and see your GP first. You don't have to take antidepressants even if they are offered! Ask for therapy instead. Good luck

  7. I think clinical depression is a very complex problem. Everyone who is suffering would wish it would be curable with couple of visits to GP. Unfortunately it is not the case for most sufferers.

  8. Homoeopathy is the only hope in depression, it is very effective in psycho-somatic diseases of modern life like stress & depression. I am a meditator & stress consultant

  9. There are 2 types of depression, exogenous or situational, this responds to counselling and therapy and may benefit simply by going to see ANY therapist or taking ANY placebo, such as homeopathic 'remedies'. The second type is endogenous depression, it is due to chemical imbalances in brain amine and requires drug therapy, it is unlikely to be improved by anything else.

  10. It could be, but the real treatment for depression is figuring out what's causing you to be depressed and working towards a resolution.  Sometimes, the reasons are blatantly apparent, like the death of a family member or close friend.  Other times, it's not so obvious.  Counseling can help you discover and treat the causes of depression.

Anti-depressive medications like Welbutrin and Paxil can help you deal with symptoms, but won't treat the cause.  They are intended to act WITH counseling to treat depression.  Unfortunately, too many people think popping a pill without seeing a counselor will cure their depression.  It doesn't.

Fortunately, there MAY be some herbal remedies that could do the same job as prescription meds.  St. John's Wort is one.  I used it several years ago when there were few SSRI's (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors...it's one class of anti-depressants) on the market and the side effects of Paxil were too unpleasant for me to handle (shaking, sleeplessness, and unable to feel emotion).  I weaned off the Paxil and started St. John's Wort.  It had the same efficacious effects as the Paxil but with no side effects.  The downside was that it took a couple of weeks to kick in (has to build up in your body, but so do prescription meds).  You are only supposed to take it for up to six or eight weeks, I think, then stop for two, and back on to six.  Also, St. John's Wort doesn't work for everyone and some people only get relief from a prescription med.  It's worth a shot if you want to try it, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it you're suffering from severe depression.  Only mild or moderate.

But remember, herbals are only taking the place of prescription meds and still have the same purpose.  The only way you'll effectively deal with and cure you depression is to seek out counseling in combination with medication.  Good luck!
