Hong Kong has been part of China ever since Qin Dynasty.Qin Dynasty (BC221)

After losing the Opium War, the Qing government signed <Nanjing Treaty> and <Convention of Beijing>. Britain since then had occupied Kong Hong till 1997.

Also during the 1940s, Hong Kong was occupied by Japanese.

So your answer is YES. Hong Kong has been part of China for more than two thousand years. Only in the last century, Hong Kong had been colonized by Great Britain and Japan for 66 year. That's probably why you were confused.

Hong Kong is not part of China but it is a Special Administrative Region of the P. R. of China.

The term China commonly refers to the mainland part of the P. R. of China.

It is part of China since 1997 but has it's own legal system and maintains it's on immigration controls etc. Their is still a border crossing between Hong Kong & mainland China.

Macau is the exact same since 1999 & both are Special Administration regions of China.
