  1. i think both

  2. Hong Kong is part of China. From this it is a city.  However, Hong Kong has it own currency, the Hong Kong Dollar.  It does not use the China Rembini.  From this it is its own country.  It believe Hong Kong is called a Special Administrative Region.

  3. both. it's a city-state. compare it to places like the vatican city, and singapore. it's all similar.

  4. I always wondered the same, but its both.

  5. Hong Kong is a city, not a country! It's part of China.

  6. city!

  7. Hong Kong (Chinese: 香港 [pronunciation]), officially Hong Kong Special Administrative Region[4], is the territory located on the southern coast of China, facing Guangdong in the north and the South China Sea in the east, west and south. The territory is one of two special administrative regions in the People's Republic of China, the other being Macau in its vincinity.

Hong Kong was a dependent territory of the United Kingdom from 1842 until the transfer of its sovereignty to the People's Republic of China in 1997. The Sino-British Joint Declaration and the Basic Law of Hong Kong stipulate that Hong Kong operate with a high degree of autonomy until 2047, fifty years after the transfer. Under the “one country, two systems” policy, the Central People's Government is responsible for the territory's defence and foreign affairs, while Hong Kong maintains its own legal system, police force, monetary system, customs policy, immigration policy, and delegates to international organisations and events.

Beginning as a trading port, Hong Kong emerged as a leading financial centre in the late 20th century. Its highly capitalist economy is heavily based on service industries, and thrives under a long-standing policy of government nonintervention. Although the population is predominantly Chinese, residents and expatriates of other ethnicities form a small but significant segment of society. Influenced by both Eastern and Western cultures, Hong Kong's unique formative experience is reflected in its cuisine, cinema and music.

  8. I guess can be called as a country and a city too.

  9. No, HKSAR (Hong Kong Special Adminstrative Region, its full name) is not a country, it is a city - a SAR - special administrative region of China

  10. its a city

  11. Hong kong is a city ;]

  12. Neither... it's a CITY STATE... like Rome or the Vatican.

  13. both

  14. city

  15. It's a city. Moreover, it's a Special Administrative Region of China. That means, even though Hong Kong is under Chinese sovereignty now, they are still given some extent of power and autonomy... for example, Hong Kong continue to use the British road system and place names (Hong Kong used to be a British colony), and they continue to have English as an official language... they also have different immigration rules and monetary system compared to Mainland China...

To those people who said Hong Kong is a city-state: well, not quite, since Hong Kong is technically not an independent country, unlike Vatican City, Monaco, etc. which are city-states and ARE independent :)
