Is Hong Kong a separate country that China?

I know it may be a dumb question. But according to the Olympic games, Hong Kong athletes are seperate from China's athletes.

the English handed Hong Kong back to China in 1997 . so although it belongs to China they still have seperate policies. I'm gong to Hong Kong next month and do not need a visa to visit but if I go over the Chinese border I do

Hong Kong was leased by Britain until 1997 then it reverted to Chinese control, however the Chinese Govt. is allowing a 50 year period of readjustment - during this time (until 2047) Hong Kong has a fair amount of autonomy, its own police force, tax laws and is a much more commercial/ccapitalistsociety - however, ultimate control of the territory is now Chinese - before it was British

no . HK is under the control of china but they have diffrent currencies and rules and stuff . Macau too .

hong kong is in a SAR regiong right now and China has jursdiction over HK. SAR = Special Adminisitration Region. China promised 50 years of no change in govt and currencies and etc. HK do send seperate athletes to compete and they did win gold medals.
