  1. Not too long ago, Hong Kong was returned to China. It was originally a British colony. I heard that since they had their own government, laws, money, Cantonese and traditional Chinese and everything. China let them be and didn't change anything.

  2. HK is a part of China,u should know more about it from the article below

  3. It is a special region of China.

  4. They are a semi-autonomous province.

  5. well, we have to thank the British for that.

Hong Kong was a British colony, so it had its own administrations for different sports. When Hong Kong returned to China, it became a special region which will remain its social system. That's why they marched apart form China.

  6. Not quite. Hong Kong is a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China. That means, they are part of China, but they are given a high degree of autonomy. For example, they use different currencies, they have different immigration policies, they have different road systems, etc. Most of the influences from its British colonial past are still present today in Hong Kong.

Because of this autonomy, they are also given a chance to represent their city separately from Mainland China, such as in the case of sporting events like the Olympics.
