I heard it has a lot of air pollution and traffic, but I do want to live in Hong Kong when I grow up. But I just don't like the fact of how there is so much air pollution.

  1. Well, I'm willing to sell you one of my legs to find out. I bet it is one lush urban area. A lot of romance, art, architecture, and a culture that goes back a touch longer than the US. I'm willing to go there for 5 years to report back to people. If you have the chance, GO!

  2. Yeah hon gkong does have a lot of air pollutions. my uncle who has asthma grew up in hong kong. He had to leave because the doctors told him that his asthma will only get worse with allt the pollutants in the air.

Whenever i'm in hon gkong i never notice the sunlight. I mean i know its there but there seems to be a cloud of smog just covering the city.

Yeah i know its a great place to live. but you do have to consider the amounts of pollutants in the air.

  3. HK does have smoggy days, but the residents are far from complacent about it. The smog does not originate in HK itself, but blows over from the  southern part of the Chinese mainland.

Chinese people tell me that the govt has begun to discourage "dirty" businesses from setting up shop in China. As the country becomes more prosperous they'll become more particular about the sort of business they encourage. Manufacturers that produce high levels of pollutants will have to build elsewhere (like Thailand, for example). Or so I've been told.

As far as traffic goes, I personally don't think that's a concern. HK is not that large, and you can get almost anywhere without a car. Choose any other form of transportation you want--subway, bus, taxi, scooter, bicycle, on foot. You don't really need a car there.

  4. I do not think so. If you want good environment come to my hometown Guilin. You can see the green trees all the year round and cruise on Li river. Yangshuo County is also popular in foreigners

  5. Hong Kong is a land full of opportunities if you have the right education. Do you like a competitive and rush environment? If so, then go for it. Hong Kong is very modern and in transportation wise, very convenient. You don't need a car as the above answerer has said.

As for the pollution, don't worry. It isn't as bad as you might think. Did you know that Hong Kong has one of the highest lifespan statistic only second to Japan??

The average life is 85 years old for male. So even with all the smog, Hong Kong citizen is still healthier so the pollution isn't the issue.

  6. Consider that Hong Kong will return to full Communist control in 2047. Do you want to live under a Communist state?

Plus Hong Kong is so expensive from what I've heard. You need money to live there.

Consider that most industrialized cities in China are polluted. You will have to move to the countryside to get away from pollution in China.
